I don't care much for the hierarchy either, but the hierarchy isn't in place to allow humans to pretend to be closer to God than others. That's just not correct. Sure, some humans can use it as a vehicle to do just that, but at it's bare principles, that's not what it's there for.

The forgiveness by a priest is so they can still be a part of the church.

I have regularly defended the ONE TRUE CHURCH on this forum
as an example of an evolving Religion - which is a huge plus - as an opposite example to Islam

I also have made it clear many times that I feel THE CHURCH does more good than harm

BTW, if you read the Scripture with the same, the Second Coming does not bring the destruction of the world, but rather a time when the enemies of God are destroyed, and the world lives in peace under the rule of God.

The Pope keeps saying, in word and deed, it's time to be prepared. If you have lived with a grave sin, mercy and forgiveness will be freely given to those who ask.

And yes, Cleets, it's God who forgives. But the Pope is a messenger saying God's forgiveness is freely given,
