The "strike first" explanation makes sense as does the prevalence of victimization in ancient texts and modern Christian culture.
When we cultivate the sense that we have been wronged, we can’t see the wrong that we ourselves are doing. We also give up our power to make things better. If people keep being mean to us through no fault of our own, then we’re helpless as well as victims, at least in our own minds. You can’t fix what you can’t see.

In the case of Christianity, the theology of persecution serves to give the faithful hope. It inspires persistence in the face of hardship, including the many hardships that life brings on all of us through no fault of our own. But it has also blinded generations of believers to the possibility that sometimes the hardships they face are due not to their faith or evildoers hating Jesus, but to the fact that they hit first. And sometimes the bewildering hostility they perceive may simply be something that the theology of persecution set them up to expect, whether it is there or not.

The oppression olympics are the hot new sport, and evangelicals just want to have their own team to compete in it.

They don't come off much more silly than people who are sure black people are considered target practice by police with no real proof and are rallying around a case which the Justice Department looked at with a microscope and found no wrongdoing or racial bias on the part of the policeman.

Crying oppression and getting angry and offended over things works, and all these people are doing is taking from that playbook.

That one case proves that the justice system is equal.

Sure it doesn't prove the justice system is equal. But it's just another incident in a long line of racial outrages that when scrutinized with actual investigations turns out to not be what people claim it was. There's OJ Simpson, Tawana Brawley, the Duke Lacrosse fiasco, the New Jersey Turnpike study, Trayvon Martin, and the Jena 6. :coffee:

Remember how he was prosecuted just because people don't like successful black women with white wives?

No. Then again, I'm not obsessed with either side of the race debate.

What do you find disagreeable, John?

Christians have dominated culture, putting their notion of what's right and wrong on the table and then get butthurt when people push back. And whaddaya mean my take on homosexuality is offensive? Not everyone wants to see the Ten Commandments statue in my courtroom? On the capital lawn?

Help! Help! I'm being repressed!!!

It was the McCarthy Era Communist scare
that dragged Christianity right square in the middle of the government offices...
Everybody had to prove they weren't a communist spy or sympathizer - and I do mean EVERYBODY
and the only way to do that was to drag the Bible out
and build ten commandments statues all over middle america

He even bullied Eisenhower into printing "in god we trust" onto our f*cking money
MONEY of all places to talk about God ... on actual money - the Hilarity of that is awesome

There is NOTHING that EVERYBODY wants. Should we just continue to let the vocal minority rule?
