The Supreme Court has declared that same-sex couples have a right to marry anywhere in the United States.

Gay and lesbian couples already can marry in 36 states and the District of Columbia. The court's ruling on Friday means the remaining 14 states, in the South and Midwest, will have to stop enforcing their bans on same-sex marriage.

I'd be curious to read this opinion as to what legal standing the minority opinion said would deny this.

I would imagine their position isn't to deny but rather that it is not a "right" in the constitution and should be left to the political process as opposed to a court ruling. But that is just a guess.

When dback turned me on this issue over at AGS. He said this was about equal rights not religious beliefs. The Catholic Church doesn't recognize my brothers marriage. So why should Jon's be any different?
I pray that this will be the end of this issue. But I fear the next round will be for MY church to marry LGBT.

Roberts also questioned how, in light of the Court's holding that there is a substantive due process right to marry in accordance with one's preference, state laws prohibiting bigamy are constitutional. He does have a point there.

I've been saying for a long time this court isn't a conservative court- really only 3 conservative justices. Last 2 days just proved my point..
