This particular cop never should have been charged - the connection to Freddie Gray was slim, and his involvement was minimal and superseded by others.

That's how Zimmerman got acquitted. In cases like this/that it's best to go for what you know you'll get a conviction on.

Possibly. I don't know what was in the DA's head. Maybe she is a shitty DA and thought she could get a conviction. Maybe she thought I will charge everyone, and as long as I get ONE conviction, I win.

Officer Edward Nero was charged with several misdemeanor offenses after Gray died April, 2015, in his custody. Baltimore Circuit Judge Barry Williams found Nero not guilty of all charges just over a year later. Residents were not surprised given what they saw as racial bias in the criminal justice system.
“White people are turning a blind eye,” resident Mumin Soweto told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “We’re not the ones stirring up the racism.”
“If that would have been a white person, things would have been very different,” Resident Ivy Carter told TheDCNF. “They’re ready to turn Baltimore into pieces.”
“The solution is, you need to go back and talk with your community,” Soweto said. “If things keep going the way it is, like with this young man, there is not going to be peace.”
