Free Marketer complains when screwed by Free Market

Saw this come across Facebook. The poster is a rabid free marketer/market determines what is best for America, blah, blah blah - except when the result of unregulated capitalism/monopolies affects HIM...
So, because Southwest Airlines had to cancel a flight allegedly due to "maintenance" issues (translation: the flight wasn't full) my wife is now DRIVING my daughter to college. Is it really too much to expect that when an airline SAYS it's going to fly from one place to another at a certain time, that the flight ACTUALLY take place with some sort of regularity? How in the world do business travelers function in today's airline world? I don't ever remember so many airlines cancelling so many flights because of "maintenance"....seems to happen every time me or one of my family members attempts to fly out of the craphole I live in....must have some REALLY shitty mechanics here.., 'cuz there are TONS of flights canceled.
And the kicker is, there is ZERO concern on the part of the airlines for the traveler and why they might be traveling. With all the airline consolidation there are now FEWER options, shittier customer service, and less consistency with regards to actually meeting their obligations as a service provider. I remember back in the day when Southwest Airlines used to be "different". Now, they're just like all the rest. POS's that are undependable, expensive and inflexible. And people wonder why I prefer driving.
PS - you just knew I had to post this

I fly damn near every week...
I stand in line at the airline kiosks every week
I stand in line at the TSA security check points almost daily
I stand in line at the car rental facility mondays and fridays
I live in a series of lines
A business traveler doesn't really care about cancelled flights and delays
A business traveler is used to not getting where they are trying to go
being a day late
paying through the ass for a new ticket on a different airline that same day in a different terminal
with two extra stops for $1500.00 to arrive after midnight
so he can be at a meeting at 8:45 am
that ends up getting cancelled because somebody else from somewhere else couldn't make it
This guy - and his daughter - are just typical whiny consumer passengers
thinking the entire industry should revolve around their $119 discount ticket
Well Mr. Douche...
Welcome to F*ck-You

Exactly. In a FREE MARKET, unregulated capitalism, shit like this wouldn't be allowed to flourish as it has in the highly regulated airline industry. Market performance like this would get you eliminated pretty quickly. Now, it's become the norm.

I haven't read any of the other replies, but I'm sure someone has schooled you by now. Please allow me to pile on.
The airline industry is one of the most heavily regulated industries in the United States. Airlines do what they do because they know they can get away with it. Those regulations are not designed to improve or maintain high levels of customer service. Hard to believe, right? You would think that a government that is committed to improving the lives of the average American would implement regulations that are actually detrimental to airline customers, right? Because that's what regulations are designed to do, right? Government is supposed to take care of us from cradle to grave, right?
Fucktard.

Okay you nimrods
FAA commercial regulations
and Air travel regulation is primarily focused on:
General passenger safety
Flight in air standards and Safety
Build and maintenance safety
Hazardous material handling safety
There is very little in the way of commerce and trade that is regulated in Commercial Air travel
which is entirely the focus on this thread

You said it yourself in your post - the airline consolidation that was allowed to happen (that many Democrats opposed). This is what happens when you allow monopolies to flourish - they have you by the balls.
Airlines, Banks, etc all need to be broken into smaller pieces.

Well I for one am curious to hear one solid example
of FAA Regulation related to competition, commerce and transactions
that influences the Airline business and tilts the tables
I will gladly admit I am wrong or misguided - please enlighten me
I am curious to hear about "the heavily regulated airline business"
in regards to passenger travel and competitive balance
Fire Away...

Southwest has one of the highest customer satisfaction ratings of any American airline. Maybe this is just karma for being such a whiny gash?
