In a fleeting moment of frustration, “the devil” — and not deep-seated racial prejudice — prompted a Georgia high school principal to make racial remarks at a graduation ceremony on Friday.

That’s according to TNT Academy Principal Nancy Gordeuk, who has stepped forward to apologize after she was captured on cellphone video condemning people for leaving early by saying: “Look who’s leaving … all the black people.”

Gordeuk’s comments sparked an immediate uproar, with people in the crowd angrily approaching the podium and exiting the ceremony in protest. On social media, the comments provoked even more outrage as people all over the country called for her resignation.

“A terrible mistake on my part of the graduation ceremony on Friday night,” Gordeuk wrote. “The devil was in the house and came out from my mouth. I deeply apologize for my racist comment and hope that forgiveness in in your hearts.”

On Saturday, Gordeuk’s son came to her defense on his Facebook page, posting his address and telling critics of his mother to come see him face to face.

“What was rude wad somone standing up during the ceremony and walking around with a tablet with somthing wrote on it that was rude now regaurdless my moma not racist one bit she’s done nothing but help kids so yall need to get stories straight,” he wrote, prompting numerous responses.

One hour later, Gordeuk followed up with a second post repeating the invitation, but this time including a racial epithet.

I guess that constitutes progress in the South.

One thing I will say unapologetically is that I've been to my fair share of graduations and most of the rude behavior I've seen is from black people. These are high school graduations, college graduations, and even med school and law school graduations. It never fails.

The worst thing is all of the noise. No matter how many times the crowd is told to hold all applause until the end of the ceremony, there are always at least a few parties of black people that feel like they have to let out ear-splitting hooting and hollering when their graduate's name is called that always makes it impossible to hear the name of the person who is coming after them. Obviously this isn't all or most of the black people, but it's almost exclusively black people who do it.

I'm not excusing the words of this principal, but I can understand how someone can get a short fuse and make offensive, broad-brush statements that they don't mean.

When you're not (of course) you have to stand up for what you said and take responsibility

She doesn't need to be defended. She did nothing wrong. If the black people were leaving and all who were leaving were black, she simply made a valid observation.

Everyone was leaving. I mean everyone. In fact the person she was bitching about was a white man with his daughter. Someone from my church was at that graduation. IN the end, this will all be forgotten.

Uh, no. Christian apologies fly all the the time. Look at all the conk preachers and politians who are still thriving. The Catholic Church has to apologize daily for something and they always get a pass.
