I realize that this is going to get people who didn't see me write what I'm about to talk about around a year or so ago pissed off but I have to mention it because I've been hearing stuff about "thug" being the new "n word."

Some of you may recall when I was pretty negative about people who are police officers. I said that, while it's not a 100% thing, the job itself is going to select for people who are willing to push other people around. You're not going to do that job unless you can become reasonably comfortable with doing that. It's going to select for a certain type of person and it might not be the most pleasant type of person. I wrote that police are a necessary evil. AND I wrote that they are society's thugs; societies heavies. They are the "enforcers."

So, no, I don't think when I say "thug" it's my new version of the "n" word. I can honestly say that long before this issue came up I used the word to refer to the police they're all pissed off at now.

This is kind of interesting given the Baltimore angle because whoever posted the video is calling people in the Baltimore police Department "thugs." The video was posted just this past fall.
