One of the inherent rights of owning a vehicle is the ability to get on one’s backside — a wrench in one hand and a grease rag in the other, and just tinker to your little heart’s desire. Since the vehicle was invented, it’s been an important facet within the community of gearheads.
General Motors — the same company responsible for 87 deaths related to faulty ignition switches, FYI — wants to take that right away from you citing safety and security issues. Along with a few other big names.
It’s called the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). It’s been around since 2000 and started as anti-Internet piracy legislation. But automakers want to use it to try and make working on your own car illegal. Yes, illegal. The general premise is that unlike cars of the past, today’s vehicles are so advanced and use such a large amount of software and coding in their general makeup, altering said code could be dangerous and possibly even malicious.

Agenda: Allow government and automakers (lienholders) the ability to track, regulate and disable vehicles remotely. Bill criminalizes vehicle operators removing/disabling aforementioned electronics.
Just like the Patriot Act, this bill weakens liberties and strengthens government. As such, it will pass with minimal debate.
WAKE THE FUCK UP, PEOPLE!

I heard this on the news the other day and was wondering if they were reading it from "The Onion" or something. This has to be one of the dumber ideas that has come about lately and there have been a lot of them. We have hit rock bottom of stupid ideas and continue to dig.

Well, we are moving in the direction of driverless cars - if we end up having the highway system they had in "The Minority Report" it's very likely we aren't going to want people toying around with the safety systems that prevent mishaps. I'm sure there'll be places set aside for people who want to drive their own cars around and tinker with the cars. Just won't be on the roads or highways. Progress, baby.

So what exactly won't happen in our lifetime..?
Please explain

Because Audi just finished a cross country driverless car trip (2700 miles I believe)
and google has over a million miles of flawless driverless car driving in the US

If you spend any appreciable time driving in DC (or any major city) at rush hour, you might be willing to give driverless commuting a go. I resist the urge to kill probably 25 "drivers" on average each morning and afternoon.

Oh, we'll have large numbers of driverless cars on our roads sometime in the future. But people will still have the option to drive their own cars well into the latter half of this century at least...

Google is putting vents at crotch level in those cars so men like Clitz can feel the wind on their vaginas

Yeah, right. I bet you wouldn't get 6 months. White people don't get jail time.

The cop would probably just give you a ticket for littering and help reattach your bumper.

The car still needs an alert person to take over in less than a moment's notice. It almost might as well not even be a driverless car.

The University of Michigan's "Transportation Research Institute" = See: U.S. Auto Makers future lobby group
Google has logged over a million miles with no significant issues reported
Talk about your General Motors grant money shoveled into a furnace
Hey lets go find research that supports our desperate attempt to slowing down progress by our competitors

Where's the Google study showing that the driverless cars can withstand having the wife in the passenger seat saying "there's a spot! You should have parked there!" or other tantrums
