6. Security
A multilevel security plan went into works not long after Nashville was chosen as the convention destination. All guns on the convention floor will be nonoperational, with the firing pins removed, and any guns purchased during the NRA convention will have to be picked up at a Federal Firearms License dealer, near where the purchaser lives, and will require a legal identification.

Why are they doing this? Don't they trust their own members? Fucking hypocrites.

All it takes is one wacko left wing nut disguised as a NRAer failing to score a point for their cause.

While true, you have to figure, the lone wolf will be in the middle of the convention floor. Chances of friendly fire in the circle of executioners is too high of a risk.

But would do wonders for the medias portrayal of NRAers being crazy gun owners. No?

Posting part of the story is always convenient.
Licensed carriers will be allowed to carry at the main convention space in the Music City Center. Firearms are prohibited at the nightly concerts across the street at the Bridgesone Arena, which bans firearms and serves alcohol. The Bridgestone Arena will have armed security, so there goes your good guys with guns spiel.
Game, set, match. Next.

Also, a quick Google search shows that the same contention gets raised annually by the same liberal rags each year since at least 2010. I guess we can count on the same thread in 12 months.

Fair enough ^ and agreed,
But you are saying there are absolutely times and places where firearms should be restricted..?
lest we not forget that little gem - as dictated by the NRA

Why are they prohibited on the floor? Don't trust people? Why would the NRA pick a spot that bans guns at the concerts? NRA keeps pushing legistlation to allow guns in bars. Still a bunch of hypocrites.
Why does the NRA hate the 2nd Amendment - no restrictions!!

Of course we are. Where there's alcohol or drugs or any place where they're banned by law. Even private establishments where the mebers vote not to allow them.
It's simple really.

They're not prohibited on the floor. If you're licensed you can carry.
They move the convention around to give more people an opportunity to attend. They follow the laws of the places they go. Bridgestone has a ban on fireatms. I don't think the NRA has the funds to build their own 20,000 seat arena in each city they travel to.

I am not, not have I ever been a member. I do hold a membership card for the NRA range in N VA, but I pay the nonmember rate.
I will not be a part of any organization who tries to tell me, with my own money, who to vote for. I'm smart enough to figure that out myself. Sometimes I completely fuck up, like when I voted for Obama in 2008 and Bush in 2000. I'm man enough to admit my mistakes. That is why I did not vote in 2012. I put myself in the penalty box.

Don't even need a left wing wacko. All thats needed is for somebody to toss a pack of firecrackers on to the floor and sit back and watch.
Of the 1,000 rounds that would be fired, two or three might actually hit somebody.

A few things:
* You need a CWP to carry a weapon legally
* Private venues have the right to restrict admission with a weapon even to a legal CWP carrier
* Some states don't allow carrying a weapon where alcohol is served, and you can't be carrying and consuming alcohol
* Tennessee doesn't have reciprocity with several states, meaning that even if they have a valid CWP in their state it isn't recognized in TN
* I can't generally go out of state and purchase a handgun, as state law requires me to have it shipped to an FFL in my area to handle the background check, etc.
In other words, it isn't hypocrisy if the attendees are following the laws of the state and the requirements of the venue.
