yes, balsack, we know that, but the XL is Boehners baby and he can't get his good friend McConnell to deliver. I guess you could say the the President had his way with both other houses.

That's the way the system is supposed to work, and I'm glad to see it working as it should again, not being circumvented by Harry Reid's not allowing bills to be voted on, or being circumvented by bogus executive orders.

Agreed. I am anti-filibuster and was when Democrats were the majority in the Senate so I believe that Reid and McConnell are in similar positions with respect to this. If the filibuster is to remain intact though, my thought is that if you are going to filibuster, you should be required to do it alone like Jefferson Smith did.

Otherwise, bring it up for a vote. Whether or not it passes is another story.

Fine. The system is starting to work the way it should again. A small step admittedly, but it is not being subverted by Harry Reid any longer.

American voters also support gay marriage, legalization of weed, social security benefits, and single payer healthcare

You're would be right on all the issues if you had said the majority of Americans. But you implied the majority of American voters, which isn't the same.

Wrong on a majority of voters supporting gay marriage. Maybe a plurality of Americans polled have shown that. Maybe there's even a nationwide poll(s) showing a majority of likely voters support it. But so far, its been shown that a majority of actual voters haven't supported it. Regardless of what any polls say, of the people who vote have actually voted on gay marriage at the polls in the last decade in 38 states, in 34 they have voted to keep marriage between a man & a woman.

On Marijuana Polls since late 2014:
Support for marijuana legalization is at 51% according to Nov 2014 Gallup. It was random sampling. It wasn't conducted among likely voters, and it was within the +/- 4 point margin of error to be over/under a plurality for either side of the issue.

I can't find any national poll of likely voters in the last year showing a majority supports it.

On single payer you might be right. Latest national poll, this one of likely voters, showed just over 50% supported single payer, still within the margin of error to be a plurality either for or against.

No disagreement on social security. I would say on those other 3 issues America is pretty equally divided.

GOP has a majority, but not a "veto majority." The Constitution requires a 2/3 re-vote in BOTH HOUSES (starting in the House in which the bill originated) to override a veto. The GOP had a basic majority, but needed cross-over help. They may have gotten SOME, but clearly not enough.

They did what the had to do philosophically, but it just didn't work out. They can always bring it up again after the 2016 election....
