You have more in common with her than you realize.

I kinda like the general road she went down...
But I think she was more responding to her own personal hatred of dictator style communism
than she was making any valid points about the proper applications of capitalism

Everybody who accepts Social Security handouts has something in common with the old blister. :coffee:

I read the "Fountainhead" and identified with Howard Roark quite a bit - bucking the establishment, his disregard for glad handing and groups, etc.

It's the modern application of her theories that are bat shit crazy.

I'll be the first one to admit that I've never read an Ayn Rand book and honestly have no idea what people are talking about when they discuss her ideas and the applications to economic theory. I saw her book on the book shelf in a local bookstore at Christmas and almost bought it just to be able to get into the conversation, but instead opted for the Neil Patrick Harris "Choose Your Own Autobiography Adventure" book, and I think I'm better for it. :thumb:

A much simpler theme than Atlas Shrugged. Classic collectivism v individualism.

Shrugged carries several themes, but mostly an anti-authoritarian/robber baron message, NOT vilifying private OR public elitism so much as classes that sociopathecally seek enrichment through enslavement of others...ultimately, the villians were overtly corrupt oligarchic politicians and Wall Street.

I've always been puzzled how the Progs allowed themselves to (unknowingly) become the weapon against Rand's message; albeit, synonymously supportive of the worker/work product.

P.S. Wake Up...

Agreed,
The same thing happens a lot as time and mythology merge together...
Ronald Reagan has had a similar type of misconception evolution over time

Read? A book? Good lord, it's 2015.

Did she hate Adam Smith?

Did she realize that Oligarchy is just as likely if not more to come from the political right?

One day I am going to read her and try to figure out why she has so many Conks and why so many more Donks are so obsessed with her.

I find liberals making fun of Rand's fans to be funny.

If Rand had written Atlas Shrugged as a dystopic novel from a marxist perspective with the same style and characters it would be required reading for high school seniors across America, there would be countless pages of gibberish postmodern deconstruction of it in academic journals, and liberal feminists would praise Dagny Taggart as being some watershed "strong" female protagonist. Fact.

Looking to any work of fiction as some kind of prophetic Bible when it comes to governments is like taking Mary Shelly as some kind of authority on science and bioethics. And it's not something that only conservatives do.

I'll look it up, but there's an article written by one of her "followers" and he basically says she'd hate the GOP today. She was a pro-choice athiest for crying out loud!

I believe that. I've listened to Ayn Rand Institute Executive Director Yaron Brook a few times on radio and he's very compelling about her philosophy. I don't think he's too enamored with the GOP.

On the other hand, I also don't think that Marx would be too happy with the Democratic Party either.

You're determined to spin this into a "Conk Bad" ideologic meme...

...it isn't.

Once again, you attempt to discuss a topic having not studied the subject.

Your continued attempts to seemingly provoke debate by asking nonsensical questions just muddy focus and clarification (as always).

Do YOURSELF a favor and stop using Huffpo, MediaMatters, The Atlantic and Raw Story as your daily directive guides.

Note:
Like all conservatives or Liberals from a previous era
she would be at odds with the present state of things - Conservative and Liberal belief systems both are twisted gnarled disfigured versions of their previous selves

Believe it or not we have a few Atheist Conservatives right on this forum (CID, I'm looking at you)
