I know you're all shocked.

He never really got along well with Reid and company. Obama can talk all he wants, but he never seemed to be on the same page with leadership in Congress, both the GOP and his own party. You wonder if all those old boys in the Senate resented the young whipper snapper doing a quick flyby as a Senator and then getting the the big job when most of them have "toiled" for decades in the Senate.

Tonight, in his State of the Union address, President Obama will propose a series of tax increases on the American people. One of these tax increases is indisputably an income tax hike on middle class families with children.

Under Obama’s plan, earnings in “Section 529” (named for its location in the Internal Revenue Code) college savings plans will face full income taxation upon withdrawal.

Under current law, earnings growth in 529 plans is tax-free if account distributions are used to pay for college tuition and fees. The Obama plan will tax earnings in these accounts even if they are used to pay for college tuition and fees.

Haven't watched a SOTU since 06' (nor a convention speech since 08' or an Inaugural since 92'). About 1/4 of the time will be the POTUS making his entrance and exit. About 1/4 will be at least one half of Congress doing up down exercises with a bunch of clapping. And about 1/2 will be a speech mostly written by someone else, read off a teleprompter, full of lofty rhetoric, platitudes, and hot air without details.

I would maybe watch if it had more shoutouts. Didn't about 4 years ago a republican Congressman shout out "You lie" or something like that after one of Obama's lies? We need more of that, like the Brits have in their Parliament. At least it would be entertaining.

-Call for a huge raise non defense discretionary spending (which would mean do away with sequestration) with a bundle full of promised goodies..
-Call for a huge tax raise.
-Call to take steps to solve 'climate change' (which would lead to higher energy costs)..
-Call for 'free' community college tuition'
-The economy is just swell.
-Obamacare are is a rousing success.
-His amnesty was necessary because Congress wouldn't do anything..
-May briefly mention terrorism, but won't utter the words "Islamic Extemeist/Extemeism".

I have two 529s for my daughters. By the time they get to college it is just going to be another runaway government dependency program with high costs created by public money and special interest rules that come with it.

But I digress- my 529s aren't huge, and the grandparents drop a little into them from time to time. The thing is- the money I put into them is already taxed. Now it is going to be taxed twice when I use it for the girls' tuition.

I'm sorry, but the Rockerfellers and the Kennedys arent using 529s to put their kids through college. Its guys like me in the less than 100k per year brackets. This is a 100% middle class tax and it flies right in the face of making college more affordable.
