Washington (CNN) -- Rep. Michael Grimm announced late Monday night plans to resign from Congress, after pleading guilty to a felony tax evasion charge last week.

:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

The announcement came just hours after a source familiar with Grimm's thinking told CNN he would resign "sooner rather than later," after the New York Daily News broke the news of Grimm's plans to step down.

"After much thought and prayer,

I have made the very difficult decision to step down from Congress effective January 5th, 2015. This decision is made with a heavy heart, as I have enjoyed a very special relationship and closeness with my constituents, whom I care about deeply," Grimm said in a statement issued shortly before midnight by his office.

But Grimm's guilty plea wasn't the only headache he's caused Boehner over the past year. He drew negative headlines last January when he was caught on camera threatening to throw a reporter off a balcony and break him in half "like a boy," after the reporter asked about an investigation into his campaign finances.

I'd say his future may be..grim.

Seriously folks, for every lying, cheating, sexually harassing Republican there is a lying, cheating, sexually harassing Democrat. This is nothing new. Eric Massa comes to mind. He tickled a male staffer until he couldn't breathe.

As long as it's consensual, i'm cool with it. But it's inappropriate in the workplace.

You know, I know you have no reason to believe me when I say this but I think that when you see something like this happen you have to realize that if the Feds decide they want to get somebody they're going to get them. They have unlimited resources and so they can put people into position where even if they honestly believe they are innocent they judge that the practical thing to do is plead. And if they don't the Feds will keep after them and finally get them.

I have said that many times about, for instance, former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards. It was clear that the Feds wanted to get him. He was a very sharp lawyer who always said that he never did anything illegal. But the Feds kept after him for decades and finally they got people into position to either testify against him or have their own lives completely ruined. He decided to continue to fight and he lost. But to this day I am not confident that he really did anything.

James Traficant was another one. It was clear to me that the Feds had decided they were going to get him. Inevitably, they did.

The other thing to remember is that Federal law and regulation has become so complicated that it is practically impossible to go through life without violating it. That contributes to the situation in which, if the Feds want to get you, they will.

If some Federal Prosecutor decided tomorrow that he was going to get you, he would get you. He'd find something you violated. And when he went after you he'd have unlimited resources to pursue the case. And he'd say, "Just plead guilty to something or I will not only put you in jail but bankrupt you and your family." And chances are you would plead. If not, you'd end up like Edwin Edwards or James Traficant. You might win the first time, but they'd come after you again. And again. And again. With unlimited resources. And they'd finally get you.

Add Dan Rostenkowski, Ted Stevens, to the list.

Just political vendetta. Real moral here...don't own a restaurant. They're accounting cesspools.

Oh, and if you're Republican living in New York, leave.

Wiki...
On April 25, 2014, Grimm's attorney was advised by the U.S. Attorney's office that his client would be indicted on criminal charges related to Healthalicious.[81][82] On April 28, prosecutors unsealed a 20-count indictment charging that Grimm and others concealed over a million dollars of the restaurant's sales and wages from both the U.S. federal government and the State of New York.[3] Grimm surrendered to the FBI that morning.[83]Grimm pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on $400,000 bond. He told reporters that he not only had every intention of fighting the charges, but also of staying in office and running for a third term.[84]Grimm pled guilty to one charge of felony tax evasion on December 23, 2014. He admitted to under-reporting Healthalicious' revenues by over $900,000 over four years and filing false tax returns based on that under-reported income. He also admitted to using the under-reported receipts to pay restaurant expenses, as well as make under-the-table cash payments to employees. As part of the plea bargain, the other charges were dropped. However, he admitted to two of the offenses in the original indictment—knowingly employing people ineligible to work in the United States and lying in a 2013 deposition. Sentencing is scheduled for June 2015; he could face as much as 30 months in prison.
:o

Unbelievable!!! A restaurant hiring illegals and paying them off the books!!!

Grimm should have been sentenced to...

...Obama's immigration adviser!

There's an irony here-

Nancy Pelosi telling the Speaker to force Grimm's resignation (which I agree with, by the way) while she cannot find it in herself to ask the same of Charlie Rangel.
