Outgoing Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe said on Wednesday that he will pardon his son for a felony drug conviction, local media reported.
Beebe, who is set to leave office in January due to term limits, said he would pardon his son Kyle, now 34, for his 2003 felony conviction of marijuana possession with intent to deliver, local broadcaster KATV said.
"Kids, when they're young, do stupid stuff. He was no different," Beebe told KATV in an interview published online. "If they've straightened up, to get their life back on track and have a second chance, so this is no different. It's different because it's my son."

What about the tens of thousands of other people that only have drug convictions??

BTW - the original arrest was for assault and drug possession - he beat the crap out of his girlfriend. His dad was AG then, assault charges were dropped.

Kinda silly, though, even if he is pardoned, with his last name and notoriety, he's never going to be able to expunge this from the internet anyway. This kid will always be known for what he did. So what does the pardon get this kid anyway now?

The ability to not check the "felon" box, vote, etc.

One of daddy's friends will hire him. Probably a Villanova daddy.

Yeah, but it's Arkansas, so he'll still have to check the cousin/sister fucker box.

I think that's called the "Marriage" box.

Funny how the article left out the fact that Beebe is a donk.

But any job worth having will likely have a cursory background check associated with it and then, pardon or no, a future employer will see. And yes, he can vote, but in Arkansas wouldn't he get the right to vote back after he's off parole or probation anyway? Ex-felons who finish parole or probation can vote in Arkansas so he'd be able to vote soon anyway.
Again, this is silly on both sides - the governor doing the pardoning is never going to be able to erase the notoriety that will follow his son from now until the end of the internet and people complaining about this are being silly because this won't tangibly change this kids life now anyway, the damage is done.

Well, in his defense, he probably saw "Governor" and "Arkansas" and just immediately thought it was a Republican. I was frankly surprised to learn there was still a Democratic governor left somewhere, even more so in the South.

Arkansas has had more Democratic governors than Republican ones.

I'm curious if this qualifies as a "Thread Fail'
Because we've had some hilarious thread fails lately (T-man, I'm looking at you)

Nope, Arkansas has a long history of Dem Governors.
Interesting - I post a negative article on a Dem politician, and this happens. I guess you guys are no different than me

I just question when someone posts something like this and thinks the kid is now going to get something (a clean history because of the pardon) when he really isn't going to. Seems like a lot of concern over nothing.

I couldn't care less. I wish the entire concept of "pardons" would be outlawed. And this is exhibit A.

I don't mind a Governor having the ability to pardon, especially in cases where new information comes to light that calls in question the original verdict. As a standard practice, it should be reserved for these types of cases, or an extraordinary reason.
