The things that can be considered "racist" these days have really reached a new level of absurdity.

I thought diversity was a good thing? Why shouldn't the hawks try to bring in more white fans? And how is it offensive to blacks to say that whites are afraid to come to places where there are a lot of blacks? That sounds like something a liberal racial oppression liberator would say.

If an owner said he wanted to try to attract more black fans, the NBA would heap praise on that owner.

But, an idea to attract more white fans?

Obviously he didn't just release the email to relieve a guilty conscience. It's obvious to anyone with any common sense.
