“This service could mitigate the diffusion of false and misleading ideas, detect hate speech and subversive propaganda, and assist in the preservation of open debate,” the grant states.
In the future the Truthy research team hope that the public will use the tool to report on other Twitter users.
This won't end well.

It really is mind bending that there are people in America who believe this type of monitoring, and subsequent action to "correct" the "subversives", is reasonable or even acceptable.

Who knows exactly what it is really..?
I know there was a Google team set aside in 2004 to study how to effectively start a revolution using only social media and there are other less interesting and more nefarious small teams doing their research in similar areas with less obvious objectives
regardless of all that: Here's what I do know - I know that FOX News doesn't "know" sh!t about it and that doesn't stop them from making up all variety of hose crap and presenting it as facts

Well Yes, I know its alarming that FOX News would get some facts wrong... so I'll help you out here
a) FOX Presented this particular project as a "Hate Speech" detector
b) FOX also stated that "bureaucrats" and government employees would be the ones monitoring the software project and its application
c) FOX also implied that the project was a "Partnership" with the Senate
d) Categorized the project as a way to "Make sure" people aren't using hate speech
All of the above are actually WRONG
and there was about a dozen other nit-pic implications that FOX used that were also technically WRONG
But this is FOX
and they would rather look like they know what they're talking about and be wrong than actually "ask questions" and get the correct information... because that's weak behavior and also what Intellectuals do and they're ruining the country

Meh. I look at all electronic communication as being public. Even telephone calls. After all, that shit is used against you in court all the time. Might as well treat it as public.
If you want to communicate in private, it is best to use the Cone of Silence.

Were you told that information, or did you actually see FOX's presentation?

It was sent to me in a video clip by some "friends" at Google who are also monitoring that project
They got a good laugh at the FOX News take on the whole thing:
"FOX News where we'll twist anything to make it look like a Liberal conspiracy"
You can watch it here I believe...

Oh and by the way the FOX News Digital Media correspondent just came off a 2 years stint on Unemployment so I'm sure he's also an expert on Capitalism too... You know, beside being a Digital Media Expert

Why are we obsessing about the quality of information and news on an entertainment network?
That's like bitching about not having Ozzy hour on the 700 Club.
If you want news you had better start your own network because journalism doesn't exist on cable news anymore.

It hurts my feelings when you talk mean to me...
(I am a little over obsessed with FOX and MSNBC - both do such a HUGE disservice to America)
