Maryland blows, I agree. Too many liberals in the middle of the state. Tennessee probably isn't the most exciting place in the world, but I'm guessing the cost of living is good and the laws and taxes aren't nearly as oppressive as Maryland. I enjoyed the drive to Chattanooga when the Hens won the national championship.

Not really. Maryland is nice at either end. Appalachian Mountains or Atlantic Ocean. It's the middle that's the shithole, both geographically and politically.

Tennessee, while probably not the most cultured state (which seems to be big to you and your ego), is likely a paradise for outdoorsy types. And if you're into music, Nashville certainly has it going on, with a robust music scene even outside of country. I haven't spent a lot of time in Tennessee, but I've been to enough spots that I know I wouldn't want to live in Memphis, but the middle of the state and east I found pretty nice.

Maryland and Virginia are about to be hit with federal drawdowns...we had our briefing today on voluntary early retirement programs they plan to use for a mandatory 20% headquarters reduction...and sequestration returns after a two year hiatus next fiscal year...so losing good paying manufacturing jobs is no way to run a state...

You know, the thing that gets me about the gun laws thing is the paradox I see involving that sort of thing and the controversy over something like voter ID.

Here we have a situation in which the right to keep and bear arms is explicitly stated in the Constitution. It's right up front. Bill of Rights. Clearly a high priority with the framers.

On the other hand there is no right to vote explicitly stated in the Constitution.

Yet we have ALL this stuff where people are restricted in terms of bearing arms. Saying you should be able to buy a gun without ID would send some people into a frenzy. Yet on the other hand there is this big thing about just asking people to have an ID to show that they really are who they say they are in order to vote is A HORRIBLE REPRESSION OF THE RIGHT TO VOTE!!!!!

Plus I think that a lot of the same people who think it's this AWFUL repression of rights to even require an ID to vote want to out and out outlaw keeping and bearing arms when keeping and bearing arms is explicitly stated as a right of the people. It's just nuts.

I found Tennessee to be one of our nation's best states. I'd chose TN over MD every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Did you ever get more than 30 miles from I-95 during your time in Maryland? That is sort of the make or break for opinions of the state, unless you really enjoy sprawl and congestion.

If you're ever there again, try Garrett County in the west or Ocean City/Assateague National Seashore just outside of peak season (April-early May or mid-Sep-Oct). Or even a day on the Bay leaving from Annapolis or St Michaels.

I feel like I point this out to you in every thread like this. I'm not sure why I think it will finally sink in this time... but, here goes....

You always talk about the "Constitution" as if it simply refers to the "Bill of Rights."

However... if you would read the damn thing you'd realize there is more to the Constitution than the first 10 amendments...

... and that... THERE IS A RIGHT TO VOTE SPECIFICALLY STATED IN THE CONSTITUTION... in no less than FOUR fucking amendments.

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged

Nineteenth Amendment
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged

Their Super. said a complaint "wouldn't go anywhere".). Tennesseans are the most hospitable folks in our country...and MD has nothing to compare to Nashville and Beale St.

You lost me at Beale street. That place and pretty much all of Memphis is the pits, except for the obvious good food joints. Beale street is a tourist trap just like Bourbon Street.

Wife and I did our first babymoon (ie I get blasted and my wife drives and makes the difficult decisions) in St. Michael. Great little town with a winery, brewery, distillery, great restaurants, etc. been meaning to go back
