Fareed Zakaria speaks with New York Times columnist Paul Krugman about the Affordable Care Act.
You’ve written recently that Obamacare is working. Explain very simply why you make that claim.
There were a bunch of things that Obamacare was supposed to do in its first year: It was supposed to sign up a lot of people through the exchanges, through people buying, essentially, private insurance, but through the government-run exchanges. It was supposed to insure a bunch of additional people through Medicaid. It was supposed to do this without causing a spike in health care costs. It was supposed to substantially reduce the number of people who are uninsured. All of those things have happened.

"B-b-b-but, that's not what Baldy and Tman say!! Dere's s'posta be a s-s-s-socialist takeover, ain't dere?"
If you put just about any of the numerical targets for the first year, it's done better than that.
It's the most amazing thing that people don't know that, but, you know, after the big problems last fall, everyone was assuming that year one would come in short of expectations. In fact, it's come in ahead of expectations. And it looks very clear that this is a workable policy.
Well, gotdayum!!!!
Health care costs – this is the part that everyone worries about. What is the evidence that health care costs are going down? Because you hear anecdotally that lots of people's premiums are going up...
Right.
Lots of companies say they're going up. What does the aggregate data show?
The aggregate data shows something which has got people pinching themselves,
which is health care costs are growing so slowly, it's really hard to believe.
1. Medicare is currently spending about $1,000 less per beneficiary than what's projected just four years ago. So Medicare is way down.
2. It's aggregate health expenditures is growing much more slowly.
3. Premiums are rising, but premiums have risen every year forever…They seem, if anything, to be rising more slowly than before.

"Really? B-b-but, Tman and Baldy says that bad man Obama is gonna kill my mommy and send my daddy to prison if he duznt get helf assurance!!"
Sheeit sakes! Thanks, Governor Romney for a wonderful CONK health care idea!!!!! Too bad no one in your party had the balls to go nationwide with it!
Pussies.
GObama!!!!!
"See ya in the White House, Bronco, you old dick!"

This interview should be in the propaganda Hall of Fame.
Joseph Goebbels and Edward Bernays would be so proud.

Meanwhile, Kathleen Sebelius looks pensively out her window from home wondering why she is no longer gainfully employed.

NBC News: President Obama repeatedly assured Americans that after the Affordable Care Act became law, people who liked their health insurance would be able to keep it. But millions of Americans are getting or are about to get cancellation letters for their health insurance under Obamacare, say experts, and the Obama administration has known that for at least three years.
Four sources deeply involved in the Affordable Care Act tell NBC NEWS that 50 to 75 percent of the 14 million consumers who buy their insurance individually can expect to receive a “cancellation” letter or the equivalent over the next year because their existing policies don’t meet the standards mandated by the new health care law. One expert predicts that number could reach as high as 80 percent. And all say that many of those forced to buy pricier new policies will experience “sticker shock.”

Now we're praising the bill because health care costs supposedly aren't as rising as fast as they would be without the bill?
Wasn't this supposed to bring costs down?

Um, Negro......
costs are never going to go down. Do you pay the same for groceries you did 10 years ago? Copy of
Hustler used to cost me $4.99, now it's $11.99, dumbass.
Before such things fall, they first plateau. Kinda like the graph below which represents, on the left, health care costs in a laissez-faire, Conk environment where doctors, Conk Senators, Cheney, Tman and Col Hogan all get rich at the expense of the masses, with doctors referring us poor bastards back and forth to each other multiple times at $4000 a pop and joining country clubs at $300,000 a year, driving Mercedes' n shit.......you get the picture.....
.......to the middle and right portions of the graph, representing an Obamacare environment, which has greatly slowed the exploitative Conk orgy of gluttony, fucking and re-fucking, to a point where we experience only the most modest cost increases.
Government is good, motherfuckers!

proponents of the ACA proclaimed it would lower medical costs
that is a pretty authoritative proclamation that leaves little room for the twisty turny obfuscational excuse you just made

Interesting story from your state below...please read it
Tell us how you like obamacarre...you must be on it
I have friends that used to have good insurance like in the story below
They had $500 deductible that is now $6,000 and their good co-pays are now gone
November is coming
MNsure failing to produce results

It’s been almost one year since Minnesota rolled out its state version of Obamacare, called MNsure. How is this experiment with government-run health care working? Let’s start with the basic fact that Minnesota’s health care is second to none. Before MNsure, close to 97 percent of Minnesotans had health insurance coverage or were eligible to procure it at very low or no cost. This was among the highest percentage of insured people in the nation. Some $160 million in taxpayer money has been spent to launch MNsure, and we are no better off today.
The state had two unique programs: one for low-income Minnesotans called Minnesota Care and one for those with pre-existing conditions that guaranteed coverage at below market prices called MCHA. Our state should have been hailed in Washington as the model. Instead, these programs are being dismantled. At $3,197 per commercial enrollee, Minnesota has one of the highest costs per enrollee for any Obamacare website in the country. Affordability for consumers is far from what was promised

I guess in donk math logarithmic curves can decrease and insuring millions more people with preexisting conditions while not training more doctors will bring health care costs down.
