Guess those sanctions worked after all. Putin isn't laughing any more!!!!

"Russia's economy is stagnating as data showed on Wednesday that capital worth $75 billion has left the country so far this year following sanctions on Moscow over its involvement in Ukraine."

"Despite a new commitment by President Vladimir Putin to avoid international isolation, Russia faces a threat of new sanctions over its role in the Ukraine crisis and growing signs that its economy is wilting under those already in place.

Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Storchak said on Tuesday that sanctions were having a "serious indirect impact"

Sanctions will NEVER get Russia out of Crimea.

On the other hand, winter is only a few months away...we'll get to watch Europeans freeze.

Russia just has to limp into the winter and then they will have no problem making up for the loses...unless the NOAA data was in fact not manipulated and then global warming will really fuck the Russians right in the ass.

Saw an article the other day that predicted that Russia's population will continue to shrink and in a decade will be close to 100 million. Despite Cappy waxing poetic about what a great leader Putin is, the issue Putin has is that he has a very bad hand to play and little options. Sure, he can annex Crimea, but that's basically because no one really cares about Crimea. Heck, most Americans, if you polled them even today, couldn't tell you anything about Crimea - where it is or even that it had just been annexed. We can wait Putin out because Russia continues to fall apart from within, especially with it's declining population. Every year sees Russia get weaker and weaker. Granted, that may cause Putin to lash out more often in frustration, but mostly it will be the Europeans who bear the brunt of that since they so lazily rely on Russia for so much energy. He'll be an irritant, but nothing more than that to us.

Good article here.

:thumb: :thumb: Agreed! No reason to start a war or even minor conflict over anything Russia has done to this point.......They have to many problems of their own right now and things like Crimea are only to deflect attention from their real issues.

C'mon...that article describes Europe to a tee. It also describes white America (negative population growth), non-white America (STDs on the rise..especially in young population, drug use), and America in general (aging population, more workers retiring than entering the work force, young population drinking regularly - high school and college anyone?). And...take stats for Alaskan Americans and you'll see some similar stats. :coffee:

And we all love America's standing in relation to health (Libs argue that America is one of the least healthy countries in the developed world, so we need ObamaCare).

Russia's population will rebound (the article mentioned it already has upticked)...and Russia can continue to make money from their bountiful natural resources. Its a HUGE country...all they have to do is choke down a bit on the corruption, invite outside management and investment (you can count on one thing...China will gladly ignore sanctions to get resources...and others will follow, including our own corporations), and money, population, and other good things will fall into place.

In the meantime, Chcago and Detroit will continue to turn into bigger shit holes, our economy will still limp along while the rich suck off the top and the lazy scum lower level losers will suck dry the shrinking middle class.

Um, Fanny...... you'll remember, please, that The Cap'n made some of those same points in that thread. It is NOT in our sphere of influence. Leave it go.

And as for Putin being a good leader, he's kind of a fuck, but one guy says something positive about him here and board Conk baboons get a raging case of the RED ASS. It's such fun sport.

I'm not sold on the whole "sphere of influence" thing as a deciding point. By that measure, we never should've gotten involved in Kosovo and just should've let that genocide continue unabated. I think there are certainly times when America should get involved and times when they shouldn't, but I don't think we need to drawing Venn diagrams to stake out what our sphere of influence is. That sounds very European during the colonial periods.

With that said, I was all in favor of not intervening directly in Crimea and simply taking the route of economic penalties. Russia is a paper tiger, they are hopelessly on a downward trajectory and no amount of natural resources can change that. Putin would love to be in a stronger position to do the things he wants to do, many of which are not good things for those he wants to do them to, but reality is there's little he can do without risking significant economic isolation, and that would be the final nail in a coffin that has a few in it already.

Russia can pull out of its so called death spiral at any time.

Resources...plenty of them...will attract investment. Is anyone seriously saying China, one of the world's largest and fastest growing economies, won't tap into Russia's resources if Russia gives them the go? :suspicious:

Hint: they already have.

SANCTIONS...    We might have the Western countries temporarily on our side, but once winter starts it will be a new ballgame. Billions will flow Russia's way, and...if they can tame their corruption just a bit, say to the US level, they will do well.

China will gladly give Russia all the money they can handle in exchange for resources. Hell, they have a common enemy...Muslinism...and a common goal (avoid letting the US lead them by the nose ring).

Half of Russia is closer to China than Moscow. Can't wait until China and Russia complete a boatload of pipelines and transportation hubs between them over the next 3-10 years and watch Europe become America's bitch again while Russia enjoys a return to prominence. Russian oil and resources expansion will make our Dakotas economic expansion look like a drop in the bucket.

As for the population, if the people are given a piece of the economic gains, and incentives to have more children, they will rebound within a generation.
