Is there a War on Religion

According to the author, it's more a matter of conservatives playing the victim card. I also found it interesting that atheists are still banned from public office in 7 states.
Liberals were more likely to exaggerate their religious attendance than conservatives. Liberals attend services less frequently than conservatives do. Yet their desire to be thought more religiously observant than they actually are is greater.
Why does this matter? Because it’s more evidence that the claim that liberals are waging a “war on religion” is absurd. You can hardly listen to a GOP presidential hopeful or flip on Fox News without hearing the charge. In 2012, Rick Perry promised that if elected he’d “end Obama’s war on religion.” Bobby Jindal recently warned that “the American people, whether they know it or not, are mired in a silent war” against “a group of like-minded [liberal] elites, determined to transform the country from a land sustained by faith into a land where faith is silenced, privatized, and circumscribed.” Ann Coulter explains, “Liberals hate religion because politics is a religion substitute for liberals and they can’t stand the competition.”
Notice the claim. It’s not merely that liberals are not religious themselves. It’s that they disdain people who are, and this disdain creates a cultural stigma (and a legal barrier) to religious observance. “Bigotry against evangelical Christians is the last acceptable form of bigotry in the country,” Ralph Reed said recently.

I'm agnostic and non-religious, and even I recognize that the Left would like to silence Christianity.

That there is a war on Religion in general and more particularly on Christianity in the United States is obvious. Like you have this sign that's been posted at various locations over the past few years at Easter time:
That's clearly attacking…making war on…Christianity. One could argue about how large the movement is and about whether or not government is also attacking Christianity. But there's no doubt that there is some level of war on Christianity in this country.
I do think that some elements of government are engaged in a war on religion in general and Christianity in particular and have been for a number of decades. The Federal Judiciary is most prominent among them. It has totally distorted the First Amendment Establishment clause in order to reduce the influence of religion in the country. One can argue that it's good that they've done that. But one cannot reasonably argue that they have not distorted the clause by imposing prohibitions that are not in the language and also clearly were not intended by the people crafted and ratified it. Anybody who can read and understand English at a 4th grade level, takes the time to read the Establishment clause, and contemplates what it says knows that it does not say what the Judiciary says it says. It just doesn't.

War implies violence. How many American Christians have been killed for their beliefs lately?

I think the author is on to something reagan ding a war against atheism...
<National Report>Washington, DC–After several weeks of preliminary preparation, the Smithsonian Institution has decided to scrap a series of exhibits that would have shown the history and culture of Atheism in the United States, after a number of organizations lashed out against their plans… and a few had even vowed violent retribution.
Kansas State legislator Tom Edison (R), who made headlines last month after pushing a State bill that would have banned the Fox television show “Cosmos” from airing in Kansas, was organizing a protest rally against the Smithsonian, to take place on the exhibit’s opening day in July. Edison announced on his Facebook page this morning that due to the Smithsonian’s decision to pull the exhibits, his events were “suspended until further notice.”
“Liberals want us to believe that America is a secular nation, but it isn’t. This is a Christian nation, and there [isn't] any denying that,” Edison claimed during an interview recently on an AM radio program in his home state. “Christians are persecuted every single day in this country, every time one of these atheists start flapping their gums. We can’t worship in peace without some liberal atheist voicing their opinions, telling us we’re wrong. That’s oppressive. And we aren’t going to let the Smithsonian celebrate that oppression with a museum exhibition. No way.”

"War on Poverty" as declared by the Donks in 1964 ...that's one violent action...

Nice red herring. Care to answer the question?

"War on"is an overly used phrase, and no longer implies violence. Your question is invalid ...

I don't believe there is a "WAR" on religion..
I do believe however, that non-religious people are finally speaking out as loudly as the devoutly religious have been for thousands of years (and not getting killed for it)
Aggressively defending their right to call bullsh!t
on something that has been forced into every Americans face
Just because Atheists put up aggressively worded posters does not make "A WAR"
Unless you also define Fundamentalism as as a "WAR" on common sense...
On my drive from Seattle to Portland there are at least three Jesus billboards
There on Zero Atheist billboards

Yes, but it's not waged by same-sex marriage supporters, anti-creationists, or even those militant pro-abortion douchecunts. It's people like the Freedom from Religion foundation and Americans United for Separation of Church and State I have a problem with. The type of callous jerks who try to get roadside memorial crosses removed. There is no freedom from religion. Fuck em.
There's also right wing anti-Muslim hysteria, too.

In a vacuum, yes. In this context, no. Would you prefer "Campaign against religion"?

Being preached to by someone on a street corner is fine. But a little poster saying Jesus is a myth=war.

Americans united was founded by a reverend (a very smart one at that). So fuck him?

Yeah, because that's all that's being done. Just a little poster.

Weak sauce Cleetus. One billboard per county doesn't really equate to being forced into every American's face. You crack me up.

The one near Centrailia doesn't count. It's on private property.

We invade countries that are primarily Muslim, and people here are complaining about atheist posters. If there is a war on religion it's mainly aimed at Islam. The Christians who are complaining are just playing the victim card; they don't want their religion attacked, but other religions are fair game.

War on Poverty
War on Drugs
If there really is a war on religion, shouldn't religion be thriving?

You don't consider all the negative media play Christianity gets to be part of the war?

All I'm saying is it goes both ways. If religious people want to put up billboards and preach on corners then they can't bitch if atheists put up their own billboards.

Yeah, Christianity has all those suicide bombers, intentionally targets civilians, stones people to death, makes women wear sheets on their heads, etc, etc.
