Twice the number of self identified moderates are democrats so it's not all that surprising that twice as many vote exclusively dem (25%) as Rep (12%).

Besides, ideology is a spectrum not an either or like party affiliation.

Please do not sign any legal papers without any help...you are not capable of comprehending what your are reading versus what you want to read.

9 percent of moderates always vote for Republican candidates... :coffee:

Yet 75% of democrats that are self identified moderates aren't moderate at all. Interesting stuff Kalm.

Was it Homer Simpson who said that the only thing that belongs in the middle of the road is free venison?

I read it, but I didn't find the conclusions "fascinating" -- just obvious. The last sentence is pretty typical: the national Dems will lose moderate support if they veer too far to the left, ditto for the GOP on the right. Well, duh.

There's a venerable moderate Republican group called the Ripon Society that posts quotes from Teddy Roosevelt just about every day. It's ben around a lot longer than Third Way, and I used to be a supporter. I still read the website regularly. As much as I enjoy kicking Gannonfan and UNI88 in the nuts on occasion about their "moderation," I don't question their sincerity.

I'm nothing if not sincere. Seriously, I mean it. Really.

I think that was James Madison.

for example, they want the government to do more to help the economy, but they worry that it may be ineffective or counterproductive.
To me that says it all. What's described is equivocation. They really aren't certain about what to think.

 The responses are asinine...most likely due to the questions.

So open mindedness is a bad thing? It's better to be decisive than right?

It is better to have a clue.

Moderates are probably those people that actually take the time to respond to a one question poll with, "I don't have an opinion."

On the issues, moderates often see virtue in both sides' arguments. A huge majority (84 percent) want more background checks for gun buyers, but 58 percent say our current gun laws are "sufficient to protect me and my community." Seventy-six percent agree that it's immoral "to leave our children a country that is $17 trillion in debt," but 72 percent agree that "we need to increase investments in infrastructure and education rather than worrying about long-term debt." :dunce:

Seriously, what kind of questions were asked, and in what order, to get those responses? And what questions were left out? :suspicious:

Moderates are a lot like women: see shades of gray as opposed to black and white, wishy washy and can't make up their mind. :coffee:

Extremists are real men, stick to their guns and opinions even in the face of obvious evidence that shows that they are 100% wrong

Moderates are rational people who know that all or nothing doesn't work in politics. Extremists are cowards who don't want to compromise and act like mature adults.

Non moderates are principled and will stick to their guns. Moderates are pussy cowards who compromise their principles and won't stick to their beliefs.

See I can play too. Isn't this fun?

Good lord, man. Seeing the world in black and white is what defines subjective thinking. Subjective thinking is what is behind the polarized political mess this country finds itself in. If there is one thing we need, it is more objectivity because I've got news for you, the world does exist in shades of gray.

It's a riot. Unfortunately, people like you think they are 100% correct, 100% of the time. Compromise is not a bad word. Compromise is important. If assholes like Cruz or Pelosi always stuck to their guns, nothing of value would be achieved. It really isn't that difficult to understand. :coffee:

Unless you're an extremist. Then who care: you're loud but wrong.

So you admire liberal extremists more than moderates?

Is moderate the new liberal?

Does partisanship and the two party system fit somewhere in this discussion?
