Crist: Race Motivates GOP Opposition to Obama

"Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (D) said Tuesday that a “big reason” why he left the Republican Party was because many in the GOP were hostile to President Obama due to his race.

Crist, who is running for his old office against Gov. Rick Scott (R), said in an interview with Fusion’s Jorge Ramos that he felt uncomfortable with his previous party affiliation. Republicans are perceived as “anti-women, anti-immigrant, anti-minority, [and] anti-gay,” he said, and they refuse to compromise with Obama. The ex-governor said he feels, “liberated as a Democrat.”

“I couldn’t be consistent with myself and my core beliefs, and stay with a party that was so unfriendly toward the African-American president, I’ll just go there,” he said. “I was a Republican and I saw the activists and what they were doing, it was intolerable to me.”

Crist is just about the worst example of political chameleon who will say or do anything to get elected. Scott will clean his clock.

It has to be racism...I mean, this kind of partisan politics only started with the Obama administration.

He and Scott are both excellent politicians.

I wouldn't be surprised if Crist completes his "liberation" by "pulling a McGreevey." Then the transformation would be complete.

Is Christ going to leave the Democratic party because of Sotowench's or Holder's racism/sexism, or is that type of stuff OK? :suspicious:

They can't be racist because a) they're minorities and b) they're democrats.

Christ may have been a Democrat when he was but a poor man, but once he got into the Kingdom of Heaven, as part of an affirmative action play by his father, Christ became a Republican. You can only get into Heaven if you honor God and give a kickback to the existing power structure.

So, what, God is actually Paul Sorvino?

This thing about opposition to Obama being because of his race is really bad.

If Ben Carson somehow got the Republican nomination for President and ran against Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden, who do you think most Republicans would vote for?

How about Allen West vs. either of those two? On and on.

It's not race. It's the fact that Obama is probably the most "left wing" President we've ever had.

I disagree. Much like there are 13,000,000 African Americans who voted for Obama strictly because of his skin color, I don't doubt there are at least 13,000,000 Whites who'd vote AGAINST Carson or West based solely on their skin color. It's sad, but true.

I would hate Obama if he was white, but his race makes it more fun to hate him.

And, do you not see a distinct difference between someone voting FOR someone and AGAINST someone with race as a major factor?

People like voting for people that are like themselves.

Kennedy won a whole lot of Catholics because he was Catholic. Doesn't mean those people hated protestants. I'd imagine Romney won a pretty fucking high percentage of the Mormon vote - doesn't mean those people hate non-Mormons.

In both those cases, I do not think Catholics voting for a Catholic for President or a Mormon voting for a Mormon for President are bigoted. People voting against Kennedy because he was Catholic or voting against Romney because he is a Mormon are bigoted, though. :twocents:

Meh. I'm a geographist. I have never voted for anyone that was from outside of the EC(b) unless their names were Reagan, Bush, Dole, McCain, or Romney. :? :?

You can play word games all you want, but in the end, when push comes to shove, people tend to stick up for people like themselves more than others. That leaves those "different" people on the short end of the stick. So yes, both ways of thinking are bigoted...one is just disguised under political correctness.

Plenty of people who supported Separate but Equal probably didn't, "hate" Blacks (or Whites), but just figured it was better that way. :coffee:

So, because the redneck in the 2000 and 2004 won the vast majority of the redneck vote - rednecks that voted for him were bigoted against non-rednecks. :jack:
