Yawn. There's more Christlike people there than a Christian convention...

I don't really see it as a "cause". Just because I don't understand how people can take religion seriously doesn't mean there aren't those who benefit from it. One positive I have noticed recently is that increasing numbers of people aren't afraid to use the "A" word and claim it as their own. Looks like Neil DeGrasse Tyson and bill Nye have found a market

A convention to celebrate their beliefs in not believing. To unify their efforts to convert the non-non-believers into non-believers.

Yeah, atheism is totally not a religious sect at all... :tiptoe:

I was thinking the same thing...

if you need a convention to affirm yourself or find strength in knowing there are others like you, then I don't think I would call that atheism.

I would classify myself as an atheist, but I would not see others in the same light if they wanted to get together to discuss their lack of belief.

Its true. They more about christianity than most christians. They also will hold people accoutable when those people rape children, rather than defend or fund them.

How is atheism a religion?

Do you know what happens at an atheist convention?

WHAT'S an Atheist convention:
The only place in the world you can find a room full of people who've actually read the Bible

Interesting that there is no agnostic or deist conventions. Maybe because they don't feel like they have to make noise and be noticed.

Agree. Both groups are superior to the religious.

I'm assuming the missing word is "know"?

I was thinking that "dislike" would be more accurate.

They'll be there, fuckhead.

Someone has to keep an eye on organized religion. That's what this is all about.

If it wasn't for atheists, the Catholic Church would still be murdering people and raping children.

Not by the hundreds of thousands like they were before.

Every major Church move toward decency and away from tyranny and brutality was forced upon them by atheists, secular humanists, victim and human rights groups, scientists, capitalists, deist founding fathers, minorities/women and other Church victims, deists, journalists, artists, non catholics and the millions who voluntarily leave that abhorrent cult every year.

The Church would never have addressed the worldwide sexual abuse of children scandal if they weren't exposed.

You're incapable of being objective. You're deep in a bloody cult. No one expects you to get it.

Anyone who forces children into cults is seriously flawed.

It's a tough book to not only read, but especially difficult to understand the original context of the words. Makes perfect sense that someone who was looking to discredit the Bible would read it more often, and those that accept it are fine with listening to those who actually went to school and studied the Bible.

Have you read the Bible in it's entirety?

God should have made it more accessible to the unlearned masses. But I won't bash his marketing as I'm told it's a best seller. Then again, so are those books with Fabios on the cover.

My grandma learned Hebrew so she could read the old testament. A few years later she gave all her shit to the Rosicrucians and set herself on fire.

Sadly,
I see you're going with the Nancy Pelosi defense...
Something like: "We should pass this bill to see whats in it"
and have the trained experts define its meaning for everybody else

 Yes that attitude is much to the joy of Big Church Inc.

And yes in Theology 101 the books of the Bible are required reading - so I read them

The real story of the bible is not "the words" as you put it - and their willful misinterpretation - by those who seek to control others, but the handling and editing of the words over the centuries and the ultimate and final application of the books as a tool against human growth and enlightenment...

That's the most interesting part of the bible frankly
