The news tonight said that SC invested $130M 20 yrs ago in the form of tax incentives, roads, etc. to recruit them here. Since then, they (along with suppliers) have generated $8.8B to the economy. It now becomes BMW's largest plant, making X4 and X7 models.
Downside is that the Upstate isn't exactly North Dakota with employment, but we're doing quite well during the recession. On the other side, we're not North Dakota in general.

Non-union labor ftw. Michelin and Boeing also have a large non-union presence in SC.

Yes they do. The machinist union is trying to enlist the Boeing employees but have met a lot of resistance.

I've never had that experience. Usually the worst drivers around here are kids in riced Civics, overweight white Walmarters in Dodges, negros in a hurry in their Maxima or Navigator, soccer moms in Honda Odysseys, and Asians in, well, anything.

Another gain for a right-to-work state.

When you say something like that you better be ready to post some credentials, like "I own a heritage, a dyna, and three BMWs and they all have the same breakdown rate"
Dude I'm a harley guy and I love them, but no way in hell is a Harley as reliable as any BMW. The only problem with the BMWs is that when you do need maintenance/repairs it is almost impossible to do yourself
but as much as i love them Harleys will leave your ass on the side of the road 10x more often

I don't really dick about bikes, but I think you'd be pretty hard pressed to pull off something like this on a Hardley:

Over 2/3 of the BMW's built in SC are exported to other countries. Same with the Mercedes built in AL. Non-union, US Southern labor is very competitive on a global scale.
Given currency fluctuations and labor rates it is now cheaper to make many products in MX than in China.

Back when I was stupid enough to ride motorcycles I used to buy Yamaha's or Honda's
Had several of each / My favorite was my 1985 V-Max
I never bothered with Harley Davidson sh!t
Too god damned loud
unreliable
handled & drove like something was broken
Frankly it's an embarrassing product

actually that was by design
they always prided themselves on being retro, which included being hard on the ass
but youd like Harley now, Chilz
theyve bedn listening to all the soft tushy metrosexual Seattle commies like you and made some serious design changes over the last few years
now even your flapping yeasty twat can find comfort on a Harley
but they still break more than BMWs
