Florida Makes Off-Grid Living Illegal – Mandates All Homes Must Be Connected To An Electricity Grid
Image

It’s no secret that an opposition to sustainable living exists. Earlier this year, Texas state brought several SWAT teams to a sustainable community and threatened to shut it down. Each one of the community members were initially handcuffed at gunpoint. It was called “The Garden of Eden Community,” and was totally self sustainable. You can read more about that here.

This time, it’s Robin Speronis that’s come under fire. She lives off the grid in Florida, completely independent of the city’s water and electric system. A few weeks ago, officials ruled her off-grid home illegal. Officials cited the International Property Maintenance Code, which mandates that homes be connected to an electricity grid and a running water source. That’s just like saying our dependency on corporations isn’t even a choice. The battle to live without most utilities has been ongoing for Robin, the self-sufficient woman has lived for more than a year and a half using solar energy, a propane camping stove and rain water.

In the end, she was found not guilty of not having a proper sewer or electrical system; but was guilty of not being hooked up to an approved water supply.

(need everybody drinking that Fluoride ;)

Is'nt freedom great!? You have the freedom NOT to smoke weed, a naturally growing plant the founding fathers smoked, you have the freedom to be mandated to connect to the water and electric grid, and you have the "freedom" to pay your taxes (income tax is illegal) or be thrown in jail, and you have the freedom to vote for corrupt jokers from 2 parties which are the same party.. ahh freedom, can you smell it? It smells goooood. Just make sure you're paying the ransom to the utility companies, or "freedom loving" "peace officers" might come after you.

Well, I know they can't do that in Montana! Lots of places off the grid!!

Anyway, this article seems to come from blogs more than main stream news. Not that there is anything wrong with that at face value as I read lots of "stuff" from similar sources. I just know from experience that lots of times not all of the story is told in these sources.....just like main stream news! LOL

I am jealous of Montana actually- it's one of the last outposts of freedom in this entire country! But don't think they won't come for you guys eventually.

Well, the thing is "mainstream media" doesn't like to talk about a lot of these issues- for what reason that is, who knows- could be that much of "mainstream media" is owned by the same Power generating companies likely to lose from a large-scale exodus from the grid-

GE Owns NBC for example.

Anyway, this isn't the first attempt to get people attempting self-independence to cease and desists.. take the collecting rainwater is illegal nonsense for example:

You are "Breaking the Law" if you collect rainwater that falls on your roof.. because of.. freedom.

Of course Spanos only post the sensationalist side of the lady

What he fails to mention is that she lives in an urban area without a septic system

That was the "rest of the story" I was wondering if it was missing. When I read things like this I think of the people here in Montana that moved next to a dairy farm during the winter, then sued the dairy farm come spring because of the smell. (They lost BTW).....basically, people trying to do things or complain about things where pre-existing laws/rules or even common cents should prevail.

She is hooked to the city's sewer system but refuses to pay the bills she is being sent for the service, i.e. stealing.

Net metering is a wealth transfer from the poor to the rich.
