My favorite was when our current Commander in Chief, kept saying corpseman, instead of corpsman. The army of the dead. Guy gives a good speech, but it is easy to see he can't speak on the fly (extemporaneous).

You know, the thing about Dan Quayle is that the teacher had written "Potatoe" on the card he was looking at and also "Potatoe" is actually an alternative correct spelling of the word.

What happened to Dan Quayle with that thing was one of the most unfair media phenomenae ever. The guy was holding a card prepared by the teacher. To cast him as "dumb" because of that was really bad.

I don't think Obama is dumb but I do think that "smartest person in the room" thing is way overblown. If I had to bet I'd bet he'd never have gotten into any Ivy League school if he hadn't been considered a member of an "under represented minority." If I'd bet I'd bet that in the circles he deals with he's very often below average for the room he is in terms of IQ.

And I'll admit that part of that is the conspicuous absence of any information at all in cyberspace over about standardized test scores. I can easily find SAT scores for both Bush the younger and Gore, for instance. But there's no finding ANYTHING that would allow one to gauge how smart this supposedly "smartest guy in the room" is.

Knowing how this administration is about letting stuff that makes him look good "leak" and covering up stuff that doesn't make him look good, I tend to believe that if his standardized test scores were all that impressive we'd know what they are. If this guy had something like, say, Bill O'Reilly's 1585 SAT score, we'd know about it.

And yes I know it's startling that Bill O'Reilly did that. But just the same if Obama had done something like that we'd know about it.

"Potato" is the common, accepted usage in America and has been for ages. Quayle undoubtedly learned it in second grade just as you and I did. Guilty as charged.

He's sitting there going through flash cards prepared by the teacher. He comes to one that reads "Potatoe." He's looking at the flash card the teacher prepared while the kid is spelling the word.

An awful lot of people, and I think more than 99% of the people, would've done the same thing he did.

That's the main thing. It's ridiculous and unfair to rag on HIM because he went with what the teacher put on the flash card. Yes if it'd been a word like "truck" and she'd spelled it "trcuk" it'd have been bad. But that wasn't the case. Maybe you correctly think the word is spelled "potato." But if you're in that situation getting kids to spell words and the teacher wrote "potatoe" on the flash card you're probably going to assume she's correct and go with it.
