Seriously? Who stops when they hit a duck? I just assume the worst and move on.

Sometimes it's the decent thing to do. Especially if it means taking the injured animal to a vet and killing it so it doesn't suffer. :coffee:

The decent thing to do is put the car in reverse and flat the cat again. If you have to get out then wring its neck.

Cruel to make it suffer while you stand over the damn thing weeping trying to decide where the nearest fvcking vet is

I was riding with a friend in his truck once and he hit a mink then did that. At first I was startled but quickly realized that was the merciful thing to do.

Is that story some kind of joke? That can't be serious. Please tell me that there is no law...anywhere...that says you can't leave the "scene" before police arrive when you run over a duck.

And it looks like it was all taken very seriously.

Sometimes animals are very stupid. Like a squirrel will cross a road, get about a foot from the other side, see a car coming, and run back across the road into the car's path right before the car gets there. I know you've probably seen that.

One thing I will not do is slam on my brakes and risk losing control of the vehicle for a small animal. I might try to evade it if there's time. But I'm not going to go out of my way to avoid killing it if it means having to react too dramatically.

Now if it's a deer or something I'd probably be more anxious to avoid it for obvious reasons. With a large animal the risk equation changes and it's worth it to take dramatic action to avoid hitting it.

What, exactly, IS the risk equation for a large animal? E=MC^2? :coffee:

Especially ducks...in front of a motel. I've never come close to hitting a duck, they aren't exactly the road crossing type. Probably semi-fully domesticated ducks and the guy was driving to fast for the circumstances.

BTW, duck is my favorite meat.

I dunno but I think we can all see the difference between running over a squirrel and hitting a deer.

I really don't see how running over waterfowl is a bad thing. They have wings. If they didn't want to die they would have used them.

We had a duck family that decided to homestead in a drainage pond at the Target in Dover several years ago. People would stop and wait for them to cross the street. They got bolder and bolder to where they'd stop crossing quickly and take their sweet ass time. One day I saw two flat duck carcasses. It was sort of sad, but I never noticed ducks holding up traffic again.
