(Reuters) - A Montana Roman Catholic diocese filed for bankruptcy on Friday as part of a proposed $17.5 million settlement with hundreds of adults alleging childhood sexual abuse by its priests, nuns and lay workers, a church spokesman said.
The Helena diocese, serving an estimated 44,500 Catholics in 57 parishes and 38 missions in western Montana, is the eleventh U.S. diocese to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization since 2004 because of liabilities linked to child abuse cases.
I heard that the priest/bishop/whatever in Missoula actually had the balls to read a statement to his people at every service last Sunday.

Public schools have done that, too, grizza. It somehow falls under the "moral turpitude" clause. It's the same teachers have been fired for doing Playboy spreads.
For me, this is quite often a district double standard, as it's almost ALWAYS applied to a female who screws up, while males who knock up some chick get over on it (so long as said knocked up chick isn't a student). Either apply this rule both ways, or drop it. The fact that for a private school system, their statement of faith gives them a bit of leeway here that doesn't apply to public school systems actually makes the situation WORSE, IMO. There's even MORE reason for an egalitarian reading to apply. If a guy gets away with this while a woman gets the shaft, the school loses major cred. That puts the school on a level with the "religious leaders" who brought the woman "caught" in adultery to Jesus. If she were REALLY caught in flagrante delicto, where the heck was the dude? It takes two to tango, as they say.

Please. Name me one public school that has fired a teacher over being pregnant while not married. I won't wait, because it hasn't happened.
Here is your

, since you lost it last weekend.
You and your church speak of forgiveness and acceptance and caring..but you fire a pregnant single lady??? So...now what? She is not employed....would the school take her back if she just got an abortion? She wouldn't be pregnant anymore... Fucking douches.
Glad the church is in it for the money now. Time to make all of the church properties taxable as well as money donated a taxable income. They are businesses.

I think a prosecutor who twists the law, distorts to truth, panders to a lynch-mob, and proffers testimony of a notorious felon, when even people in his own office know this star witness is lying, is a far more serious issue.
I find it amusing this is your response.

Nice deflection. I'm sure the former teacher, who now has no means of supporting her soon-to-be child, will take great solace in knowing you're advocating for this poor, persecuted soul.

No one GAF about the thread you started, nor does anyone believe that one wrongly prosecuted person makes up for the thousands of pedos that your church protected and helped to get off scott free.

Implicit confession.
You do care about the thread I started. This thread wouldn't exist otherwise.

Joe, what are your thoughts on the teacher being fired?

Having a pregnant single woman teaching in a Catholic school can cause confusion for young students in the school; however, I don't think firing her was the right thing to do. I doubt Pope Francis would approve.
How to handle the situation properly depends on the teacher's involvement, to some extent. I think, ideally, the teacher would identify herself as someone who made a mistake, but is willing to give birth to her baby rather than abort it. Then she could be held out as someone who is affirming the sanctity of life, consistent with Church teachings.

You do know most of us can't keep grizaholic separated from GATW, and confuse you all the time.
The only difference I can ascertain is that GATW is a big ball washer for D1B.

We had this happen at the catholic school I attended. Ms. B was an English teacher, fresh out of grad school. She became pregnant and kept her job. Maybe Charleston is more tolerant.

I think her and the fella married after the baby was born or shortly before. This was in 2000. I ran into her a few weeks ago, still happily married with a couple more kids.
