Just did my taxes....
Fuck. 30% went to taxes.
That's depressing. I'm not against paying taxes but damn...almost 1/3 went to someone else. 7.41% went to insurance, that's fine. But 30%!!

Without taxes, government-dependent bums like Ibanez, 93Hen, Colonel Hogan, etc wouldn't have a job to post on a message board from.

I have no problem with taxes...as long as the money is used wisely.

This has never happened in the history of taxes and "government".

The money gets used for good things, but hot topics like the DoD and subsidies take center stage. My taxes pay for fire protection, police protection (I know, I know) safe drinking water; safe and constant electricity, etc...CAA Flagship wrote:Ibanez wrote:

Which amounts to a small percentage of your taxes. The rest is spent on "bridges to nowhere", "expensive toilet seats", etc.Ibanez wrote:The money gets used for good things, but hot topics like the DoD and subsidies take center stage. 30%? Are you counting Medicawhatever and Social Security (OASD) in that, along with your state tax?
I get reamed about as bad as anyone here being single, making a nice salary, and not being able to claim my two sons who I pay a tidy sum of child support for. Still, my real federal tax rate (TurboTax gives you this on the cover page of your report) was about 19 percent for 2012. This does not include Medicare and OASD, nor state tax which is about 5 percent.

Re: Just did my taxes....
I took a look at my LES. I'm doling out 2.8% to Medicare and 6.0% to OASDI, so my real tax rate when 19% fed and 5% state (VA) is added is about 33%. Take another 16% for child support and half my salary is gone. Now add family premium for health insurance (I carry my sons), FEGLI for me, life insurance policy on both me and the ex (don't die cunt or I get paid!), 10% to TSP, FERS retirement deduction, rent, car, mortgage on the old home (offset for the most part by rent), and I only have a little booze money left.Ibanez wrote:Yeah, i'm counting total money that went out as a tax. 30% of my salary went to taxes.93henfan wrote:30%? Youngest is in Kindergarten, so 12 years of grade school after this school year. I have a pretty robust 529 going for each of my sons, so I'm sort of counting on about half of the college burden to be paid for in the four years after that.Ibanez wrote:How many more years of child support do you have? 12?93henfan wrote:

I'm also entertaining the thought of moving back to DE. My oldest son already wants to live with me and pesters the ex mercilessly. It's awesome.

I can't believe you could already do your taxes. I don't even have either of our W-2's yet, and I'll have other miscellaneous stuff trickling in for the next couple of weeks at least.

No joke. I just got my first document in the mail yesterday. I don't usually get my K-2 (S-Corp document) until the first week of April. Last year I had to request an extension for the first time.ASUG8 wrote:I can't believe you could already do your taxes. I am shocked that you did your own taxes. I have a guy who does the "family's". I tried to do my own once a few years ago, but with some of the properties I couldn't figure anything out.Ibanez wrote:Fuck. 30% went to taxes.![]()

I'm waiting for 2 more documents, but they don't add any income. They provide documentation for credits, etc.. Our taxes aren't too complicated. I had some guy do ours for free once, after I had already done them. He came to the same conclusion as I had.Grizzaholic says: I am shocked that you did your own taxes. I have a guy who does the "family's". What do you guys (who prepare your own) use? I used Turbotax for years, but our VP of Tax here swears by TaxAct which I've been using for a couple of years now. It's less expensive and seems to do at least as good a job as Turbotax.

When you have a few rental properties and a couple storage units....it is worth paying a guy to do the taxes and when they are done, take him out to dinner. FUCK. Too much bullshit.Ibanez wrote:I'm waiting for 2 more documents, but they don't add any income. They provide documentation for credits, etc..
