I don't think Paul Ryan becoming President was ever really a potential future anyway, at least not in the next decade or so.

I credit Ryan's sincerity on this. It will be interesting to see what antipoverty policy changes he advocates. Give him time.

Personal viewpoint:

One thing that always annoyed me when I see politics being discussed in a public forum, is that the first credential that people want to place on someone is that "they would be a good President". Almost every single public figure has people clamoring for them to "run for President" "[insert name here] for 2016!!!". Not everyone can be the head chef in the kitchen. And there are literally THOUSANDS of other positions within the government apparatus that would be nearly as effective positions to hold. You rarely see someone being proclaim of being a great SOS or or Treasury Secretary, its always for President.

Idk, it just seems shortsighted to me.

I don't disagree with you. My comment is based on my cynicism that this isn't because he suddenly cares more about the poor but rather because he needs to bolster his image as a "compassionate conservative" or some other bullshit like that to further his political career.
