The true story of debt growth under Obama

If the chart were recast to show how much the debt went up as a percentage of GDP, it would look pretty bad for Obama after not even three years in office. In fact, Obama does almost twice as poorly as Reagan — and four times worse than George W. Bush.

A solid point but Fact Checker is sometimes wrong
Not because they are for or against anybody in particular - but - because sometimes they just don't actually know all the Facts about how to calculate something
1)
The Federal Government's fiscal year runs from October 1st to September 30th
So the 2009 budget was for the period October 1 2008 through September 30 2009
"The United States federal budget for fiscal year 2009 was a spending request by President George W. Bush to fund government operations for October 2008-September 2009."
Point: The 2009 budget was debated and SET (in Congress) before Obama took office....
2)
Using that ^ above now: Based upon the actual Federal Budget table
The Federal Debt increased from $5.8 trillion in 2001 to $11.9 trillion in 2009 (the last Bush budget year) That's a $6.1 trillion increase
That's a 44% increase based on 2009 GDP
or 60% increase based upon 2001 GDP
My point:
Fact Checker is correct in that the graph is wrong
But Fact Checker is wrong in it's corrections

You know, Z, I'm with you on this. The brinksmanship on shutdowns and debt ceilings makes for gripping theater, but, enough is enough - it ain't funny (or fun) anymore. Like everyone else, they gotta act off a budget.

I'm actually curious. When I see something like this:
"The United States federal budget for fiscal year 2009 was a spending request by President George W. Bush to fund government operations for October 2008-September 2009."
That tells me that even GWB's last year there was no budget passed, which would mean at LEAST 5 years without a budget...that's insane.

That's what happens when you have a bunch of petulent children unwilling to compromise (on both sides) running the show.

I disagree
They are NOT running the show
I agree with your point that they are indeed "incompetent" and not qualified to be congress peoples
But they are NOT running the show
Wall Street and The Fed are Running the show / and pocketing $ Ba-Jillions of Tax payer dollars
while Congress argues about minutia

There's something in the conk brain that craves a fascistic order to things, that rejects change, that rejects an alternative point of view. Tends to turn on the Amygdala...rendering them violent.
Sad really...

Nothing is more beautiful to a Republican (A true Ronald Reagan Republican)
Than perfectly peaceful non-violent protesters being maced
Frankly it's amazing
and about as un-American as it gets (honestly)
