US Budget deficit narrows

This is a trend that I could support. :thumb:
The U.S. posted its smallest budget deficit in five years as employment gains helped propel revenue to a record.

Spending exceeded receipts by $680.3 billion in the 12 months ended Sept. 30, the narrowest gap since 2008, compared with a $1.09 trillion shortfall in fiscal 2012, the Treasury Department said today in Washington. In September, the U.S. recorded a $75.1 billion surplus, little changed from the surplus in the same month a year earlier.
Revenue jumped 15.2 percent to $301.4 billion in September from a year earlier, bringing the annual figure to $2.77 trillion, today’s report showed. Spending increased 21.5 percent to $226.4 billion last month, contributing to a 12-month total of $3.45 trillion, it showed.

Sequestration certainly helped but lets get real, we still need fundamental reform. This is a good start but reducing spending is the way to ensure we get ourselves out of this hole. Defense, Foreign Aid, Entitlments, etc.. can be reduced. If we're going to increase spending, lets spend some cash on education.

I support shrinking it, obviously. These are baby steps, you have to admit that. Even you understand that you don't erase a deficit in one or two years without severe cuts.

What about quit spending Money on shyt like the F-35 and the New U.S. Navy Destroyer that is already a cost over run. This is where the problem rest, but on one can stop the DOD from spending boat loads of Money.

So let me get this straight.......we are still spending WAY more than we take in but we are not going further into debt as fast as we were? :suspicious: :coffee:

Dude, you keep saying this like I don't agree with you. Cut the DOD 20%. Cut EVERY department 20%. And then freeze spending for 5 years.

I don't think I agree with this myself. I think there are programs that can and should be cut by 100% and some number down to 20%. I guess if we could say everything gets a 20% to 100% range, then we would have something.

Greasy, anyone else advocating this plan? Please, someone with valid credentials.

Sorry but the last people on the planet who should be dishing out advice on the economy is bankers. :coffee:

Funny how when you raise taxes the deficit goes down.

Thanks of course to all of us giving up 2% more of our pay to the payroll tax in 2013.

Again, not rocket science guys. You raise taxes and/or cut spending to lower the deficit.

You're on welfare, yet you rail on and on about people on welfare. You claim to be catholic, yet you will fight to the death to ensure the poor continue to be marginalized and villified and denied basic human rights.

Face it welfare king, you're a god dam hypocrit.
