Charlie Rangel: “No Question” Members of Congress Are Entitled To Obamacare Subsidies Despite Making $174K Per Year…
Via CNS News:
Rep. Charles B. Rangel (D-NY) says that there is “no question” that members of Congress who are paid $174,000 a year are entitled to taxpayer-funded subsidies when they purchase health insurance on the Obamacare exchanges.
In response to questions posed by CNSNews.com on Capitol Hill Wednesday, Rangel said that he considers the subsidies part of Congress’ “overall compensation” even though ordinary Americans who earn $174,000 per year would have to have at least nine dependent children to qualify for the same subsidy.

I'm not a huge proponent of term limits as being the end all be all answer to changing the politics that we have today, but lifers like Rangel and that Texas Republicn Congressman who just died after serving 24 terms (48 years) are proof positive that there should be term limits of some kind and at some point less than what these guys have already served.

Yeah, Ganny, but for every Rangel or Conk Texan long-timer, there are dozens of professionals who do genuine good in Congress, Conk and Donk alike.
Name one.

Never said it would solve the problem, but I can't really see the negative of maxing Senators out to 3 terms (18 years) or Congressman at 5 terms (10 years). Heck, imagine what they might do in their last terms when they know they don't need to campaign anymore? You may actually start to get some independent thought coming from these guys and gals rather than entrenched party banter (on both sides). And frankly, if the only benefit was to clean out ineffective old timers like Rangel or Strom Thurmond or other (for lack of a better word) geezers that do little but collect a paycheck anymore than I'm okay with that tiny, incremental step forward.

I know you didn't say it would solve the problem. Your 18 and 10 yr things have some merit, perhaps.

I was reading a bit on the Vitter amendment to the ACA which Harry Reid quashed before it could get a vote in the Senate and ran across this gem from Reid in HuffPo.
"All of us who worked with him on this [were saying], 'John, what is the matter with you?'’' Reid said. “Okay. Go after members of Congress. But even doing that. Now, I can handle if I have to buy insurance without employer contribution. But some of my senators can’t. Forget about that. Forget about senators. They can do okay. But staff -- we have staff people of [Sen.] Susan Collins. She has people who work in Maine and make $25,000 a year. One of the reasons you can get somebody like that is that you give them health care. I don't mean to ramble on here, but I just can't imagine the thought process of John Boehner. ... How in good conscience could you do something like that?"

How could you possibly subject a Congressional staffer to the law you just passed? That's must be a really unfair law if it hits the folks making $25K that hard. You know, the ones this law is supposed to help protect.

Name any of the most entrenched and senior members of Congress and you have named a problem member of Congress. Pelosi, Reid, Feinstein, Graham, and McConnell. Wouldn't cry one bit if they were ousted in a primary or general election.
