A food stamp glitch in Springhill and Mansfield, Louisiana on Saturday led to a food buying free-for-all at the local Walmarts - funded by taxpayers.

For a few hours Saturday night food stamp holders in the towns had unlimited funds, despite the fact Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards are supposed to have limited amount of dollars per month.

EBT carrying Walmart shoppers in Springhill and Mansfield, Louisiana took advantage of the glitch and cleared the shelves in a buying frenzy described as 'worse than Black Friday'.

So, we know which cards spent how much money? Easy fix. Those cards that abused the glitch should not get any money until either A) the money is repaid or B) enough time has passed to where the individual has received zero extra money. F

I would like to see numbers put to that. I wonder if there is a bigger pool at the lower percentages.

They KNEW of the issue. Louisiana has regulations in place that limits what can be spent on EBT cards.

Wal-Mart execs ORDERED the stores to keep accepting the EBT after they knew there was a problem.

This is on Wal-Mart and their greed.

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services' spokesman Trey Williams said the retailers who chose not to use the emergency procedures that limit sales up to $50 per cardholder during an emergency would be responsible for any additional amount spent over eligible benefit balances.

Walmart should be denied the ability to accept EBT cards for a while. The people who used the cards should be denied the use of the cards for a while.

When both parties grow up, and the debt has been paid back to the American people, including short jail time for anyone involved, then we can see if they can handle things as adults.

You're partially right... I read elsewhere that there is a $50/day/person state imposed cap if this ever happened and WalMart surely knew about yet did nothing. The story I read stated that other stores in the area were said to have imposed the cap.

It isn't entirely WalMart's fault but they are certainly culpable.

I don't understand the need to place 100% blame on anyone here - Walmart was to blame for not putting the caps in place when they knew there was an issue and that they should take the steps to ensure the caps were in place, and the people who just took whatever they could are to blame for basically stealing things they knew they were not entitled to. To say either side is blameless in this is silly - they both f'd up.

The fact that as soon as they announced that the EBT limits were up and running again and everyone basically walked out of the store leaving their carts in the aisles just shows that these weren't "desperate folks needing food" it was a bunch of freeloaders looking for some free shit.

It's 100% the people with EBT cards.

They shouldn't even have these cards to start with, they are thieves and they should be jailed.
