School bans the use of balls during recess

That's what parents are asking after hearing about a Long Island middle school's decision to ban most balls during recess and also require supervision of tag, even cartwheels, due to safety concerns.
No longer allowed at the Weber Middle School in Port Washington, New York: footballs, baseballs, soccer balls, lacrosse balls and any other hardballs that could injure a child. Also off limits: rough games of tag and cartwheels unless an adult supervisor is on hand.
"This isn't smart. It's actually counter-productive," said Donna Daniels in an e-mail to CNN. "It saddens me to think that children no longer experience the joy of kickball, tag, dodgeball and simple outdoor games I remember so fondly when I reflect on my childhood. Our kids don't experience physical activity unless it involves downloading an app."
"Without opportunities to learn how to navigate space with their bodies, and to negotiate rules, risks, and experimentation of cooperative play, how are children going to ever be able to handle themselves in any society as adults?" said Alex Martin, an associate director at a Manhattan nursery school.

Look no farther than the American Legal system for the problem here...
We are an overly litigious societal structure / Built by Lawyers / For Lawyers
Please refute that...
(but you can't)

If you look closely at that, he's watching Nina Hartley take it in the ass from Peter North. No shit.

The issue is we have a system of lawyers
who are rewarded by other layers (see Judges)
for taking up cases such as / My child got hurt playing ball on the playground = Now you owe me money
The flaw is not the School system
it is simply trying to protect itself from Lawyers

Sucking the Life out of common sense and personal accountability since 1785

Eh, it's more of a parenting issue - no one likes finding out their kid is not physically talented, so the best thing to do, from their persepctive, is to eliminate the physical opportunities. Lawyers don't come into this at all, it's all about over protective mommies and daddies.

I think most of us over 35 have our share of scars and broken bones from riding bikes/skateboards with no helmets, padding, or protective bubbles. I've had my share of bloody noses from inadvertent elbows while playing basketball or football and I'm sure I gave a few. I was a pretty average athlete and just had a good time with it and was comfortable with my level of ability. I just don't get why folks in that age group with kids of their own don't allow them to have fun and get a little banged up.

This is all Reagan's fault.

They should offer wearing helmets and they might get their balls back.

Correct... case in point, when was the last time you saw monkey bars on a school playground?
This insanity is the normal progression from banning monkey bars and swing sets... shit, kids can't even play cowboys and indians or cops and robbers anymore because if they go "bang bang, you're dead" they get expelled.
We used to play "smear the queer" where we would chase down, tackle, and dog pile each other. You might get your lip bloodied and get scratched or scraped but you gave as good as you got and it was fun as fuck and we were all pals and grew up normal. Not anymore...

I loved that game... (smear the queer)
Good times and many bloody noses and busted lips
which never so much as even interrupted the play
My dad was also my baseball coach (plus he was in the military)
I took a bad hop off my face once at third playing in for a bunt - needless to say, the kid didn't bunt
My eye swelled up black and purple / Man I wore that like a badge of honor
my dad just said walk it off son...

Love that old dude

As a school board member I can tell you this is a huge part of it. Parents are pussies too but they are the ones that feed the trial lawyers so ultimately it all falls back to the lawyers. The insurance companies play a role too telling schools what they can and can't do on things like playground equipment. Again that is driven by the lawyers.

Lawyers can't litigate unless someone files a claim. It's the parents that initiate this crap. Sure, lawyers are always there to talk them into it but if the parents said no, there would not be a case.
