If you actually read what she said it makes perfect sense. It's called an analogy.

That's what happens with entitlement programs. You implement a program people come to depend upon and as individuals like. But the whole time it's eating away at the foundation of the country. Social Security is the patron saint of such programs. People have indeed become "addicted" to it. But it's not sustainable. It is and always has been, as they say, a Ponzi scheme. And yes I know some have tried to argue that it's not. But it is. It's not a program where people put up money from themselves to use later. It's a program where income is transferred from the young to the old. Same with Medicare. The country, in the long term, would be better off without those programs. But individuals who have benefited from them are "addicted" to them.

And so now we have another program of that type.

And she's not a moron. I know that when you disagree with someone and/or if they make some mistatements it's tempting to call them stupid. But someone who graduated from Law School is not a moron. I know a lot of people like to rag on Oral Roberts but she also has a law degree from the College of William and Mary. Not going to happen if you're stupid. It's kind of like I often find myself thinking Obama is a complete idiot. But upon reflection I must say he's not. He just does idiotic things and has idiotic outlooks.

Don't get me wrong. I suspect he'd have never gotten into Ivy League schools if he was White. Don't know that but very strongly suspect it. Nevertheless, he still wouldn't have gotten in and made through if he was a stupid as he acts.

You really know that's not true. Like take Obama getting the number of States in the Union wrong. I really don't think Bachmann has ever done anything that bad in terms of "something everybody should know."

When people make a lot of Statements it's almost always possible to find gaffes.

She's a dipshit. There are many people who are successful and have advanced degrees from great universities who are complete dipshits. She is one of them.

Here's one for you. Maybe not as bad as 57 states but still pretty dumb gaffe.

Bachmann told an audience in Waterloo, Iowa that she was proud to be in Waterloo, the home of John Wayne. Too bad it was John Wayne Gacy the mass murderer instead of John Wayne the actor, who was born in Winterset, Iowa.

The important point is that it's perfectly reasonable to use a metaphor involving an addictive substance when referring to the Affordable Care Act and other entitlement programs. And that's what she did in this case. In this case there was nothing outrageous about what she said.

Here's what I see her quoted as saying in the article we're talking about:

I think the reason is because President Obama can’t wait to get Americans addicted to the crack cocaine of dependency on more government health care. Once they enroll millions of more individual Americans, it will be virtually impossible for us to pull these benefits back from people. All they want to do is buy love from people by giving them massive government subsidies.

That is a perfectly reasonable analysis of the situation. There's a point of view in there but that doesn't mean it's not a reasonable analysis.

The article said she compared Obama to a crack dealer. People do that sort of thing. They take a statement and stretch it to make their own description of it create the impression of it being outrageous. But it wasn't outrageous.

I hate it when people do that by the way. Like I might use an extreme example to illustrate the point that the fact that we can look back and see many examples of laws that are now pretty much universally considered to have been wrong shows that saying something "is the law" is not the end of the argument. People have violated unjust laws routinely throughout history and in many cases we consider them heros now. And I might say the Abolitionists of the 19th Century United States are an example. They routinely violated laws pertaining to slaves. But we don't now consider them wrong to have done it...to have violated those laws.

And then, of course, someone will say, "HE'S COMPARING THE LAW HE'S TALKING ABOUT TO SLAVERY!!!! As though that invalidates my point. And it doesn't. Unfortunately that tactic does tend to work a lot.
