Obesity up 25% even though soda consumption is down. What's Nanny Dumberg's next brilliant idea?

This is what happens when you take a scientific consensus from a soft science ("soda causes obesity!") as immutable truth and let it influence policy.

Most of Bloomberg's anti-obesity policies have been in effect for quite a while. The trans fat ban has been in effect for 5 years now. It's all a failure.
Obesity is not really as well understood as a lot of government busybodies and a lot of epidemiologists think it is, Capn. There have been some intriguing experiments involving mice showing how the composition of intestinal flora can affect weight. This is a perfect example of a "scientific consensus" that could very well be laughably inaccurate.

There's a black market for trans fat, cigarette smoke and Big Gulps in NYC.

Still too soon for significant changes to appear.

Keeping people from drinking soda doesn't mean very much if they still eat too much and exercise too little. It's not terribly complicated.
