California teen named nation's first transgender homecoming queen
In what is being described as the first known event of its kind, a transgendered teen was named as her high school’s homecoming queen on Friday.
“I am so proud to win this not just for me, but everyone out there,” 16-year-old Cassidy Campbell said after receiving her crown during the halftime of Marina High’s homecoming football game Friday night in Huntington Beach, CA.

The College of William & Mary and George Mason University have honored the Commonwealth of Virginia with similar feats in the last 3 years.

I'm going to sound like JSO here...
Don't have a problem with a tranny homecoming queen. They can set whatever rules or criteria they want for that award. Don't have a problem with trannies getting legal protections from discrimination, either.
The problem I have with the whole issue is the sending of a message that you have to have a sex change to live a normal life if you have some kind of sex dysmorphia and calling sex changes health care instead of just cosmetic surgery. What if hormones or antidepressants can cure sex dysmorphia? I doubt if there's ever been some kind of clinical trial to test that. This is an example of egalitarianism getting in the way of science, and it can do harm.

Because most Americans aren't interested in real news, but rather fluff pieces like this.

This is news because it involves a circus freak show. And the gender-secure students thought it would be funny to vote he/she as homecoming queer because they don't give a crap about homecoming anyway.

+1
I have a problem with the pure idiocy of it. You are not a girl. You will never be a girl. You are a dude who thinks he wants to be a girl. That does not mean the rest of us should be forced to pretend you are a girl just to make you feel better. It's the same as forcing me to believe in a god just to make some religious person feel better. Or to agree that 2+2=6 because we wouldn't want to make the stupid kid in class feel bad.

It's ignoring a basic scientific fact in favor of "feelings". GMAFB.

Dammit, death dealer, after years of posting on this board you should know that 2 + 2= 6.93.

By the way, I didn't realize that this thread had already started and began a poll in the Lounge.
