Obama Refused To Send Gas Masks To Syrian Opposition Despite Numerous Requests For Over A Year
The Obama administration has refused to send gas masks and other chemical-weapons protection gear to Syrian opposition groups, despite numerous requests dating back more than a year and until the reported chemical-weapons attack that struck the Damascus suburbs August 21.

A hero of yours Houndawg?
Nancy Pelosi the hawk tells President Obama to act on Syria
The Politico ^ | August 29, 2013 | Jonathan Allen and Jake Sherman
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi pressed top administration officials Thursday night to take military action to punish Syrian President Bashar Assad in response to reports that he used chemical weapons in his nation’s ongoing civil war.
Flashback
DAMASCUS, Syria — U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi met Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday for talks criticized by the White House as undermining American efforts to isolate the hard-line Arab country.
Pelosi’s visit to Syria was the latest challenge to the White House by congressional Democrats, who are taking a more assertive role in influencing policy in the Middle East and the Iraq war.
Bush voices criticism
Bush has said Pelosi’s trip signals that the Assad government is part of the international mainstream when it is not. The United States says Syria allows Iraqi Sunni insurgents to operate from its territory, backs the Hezbollah and Hamas militant groups and is trying to destabilize the Lebanese government. Syria denies the allegations.

Obama cannot wage war against Syria for 2 very obvious reasons:
1. War cannot be waged by a president- Only Congress can wage a war.
2. The United Nations voted against intervention in Syria, and he would be violating the UN Charter if he did so.
Not a legal reason, but a practical one: Why is Obama so hellbent on this action, when a vast majority of the American People are largely against any intervention in Syria? Polls say as little as 9% of Americans support an attack- We're broke, attacks are expensive, and nobody wants it, what's going on here?
If Obama goes ahead with these strikes his a a CRIMINAL- the definition of a criminal is someone who does something they know is illegal but they do it anyway. Obama has no authority to wage a war, and the UN says no go- He is breaking not only US law, but the UN Charter if he does so (I don't care about the UN as much as our laws), and should be removed from power if he attempts it. The man is a bellicose treasonous piece of shit.

Obama to ask for Congressional authorization.
Smart move. Puts the honus on Congress. And, a bunch of congressmen that have been clamping for Obama to put it to a vote are shitting themselves about having to actually vote on it now. Haha.

Actually, it's an easy "no" vote for Congress. The polls are going the other way. Obama gets political cover because you know damn well he won't lobby hard for a "yes" vote.

But, they're going to have to actually vote on it now (and I agree that it is probably a no). But, this way it isn't Obama by himself - Congress will also be responsible.

That's exactly the point. Obama basically punted, for political reasons, before lobbing a few Tomahawks across the border. All of a sudden, he's discovered that the Executive branch has to defer to Congress on war powers. He must be kicking himself in the ass for his "red line" comment. But you know he'll keep dodging Congress in favor of his beloved "regulatory state" on Obamacare, etc.

Haha.
So, last week Obama was being a cowboy and going alone by not getting Congressional authorization.
This week it looks like it will be that he is shirking his duties and 'punting' decisions to Congress.
And you call ME Herr Spindoktor. Rich.

He's a cowboy on everything, Graphmeister. Why don't you chart it on a nice x-axis?

Obama forced himself into this corner to begin with. Now Congress will bail him out one way or the other. That's as it should be.
But what is this blame you are talking about SK? Blame for what exactly?

The judgement for the decision - whether it's a yes or no.
If it's a no - criticism with hindsight that we should have done more. Not saying this is guaranteed by any means - will depend how ME shakes out over next decade+
If it's a yes - criticism with casualties, expense, getting bogged down, dealing with incompetent leaders we put in power, etc.
It's the safest, smartest, and most
Constitutional move for him.
