The Oklahoma teens who face first-degree murder charges have been named as Chancey Luna, James Edwards and Michael Jones.

But their parents yesterday protested their innocence.

Jennifer Luna, whose son is suspected of firing the fatal shot, claimed her son was at home saying: "My son is not that way. My son is a good kid."

There are many countries where murder is far more common, and those murder and violent crime rates are probably understated because of corruption and third world data collection.

There are plenty of others black-on-white crimes that should be hate crimes, but I don't think this one fits the definition since they simply killed the first random person they saw.

Just callin' it like I see it. Unless there's more to it, killing the first person you see =/= hate crime. Plus we're arguing on something that doesn't really matter. These three are being charged with 1st degree murder and face life in prison without parole - they've pretty much locked that in when they admitted to the crime and said their motive was "boredom." WTF would charging them with a hate crime do?

I agree. Murder is murder regardless of the motive.

I'm glad though no one has expressed any concern for the man who was shot.

Let's continue to focus on the real victims, these poor African-American young men. What a tough environment they must have grown up in. It's sad really.

In high profile cases like this, no one really cares about the victims. Murder happens everyday in this country and around the world, but the media zeroes in on particularly henious ones like this to rouse up the rabble and boost ratings.

Exactly. It must have been so tough on those poor African-American young boys growing up. So tough that they see a white man and have to kill him. It was probably some sort of traumatic episode they were suffering. I sure hope they don't have to go to jail. That's all white people want to do: throw some poor, innocent young African-American boys in jail.

First of all, if they looked around, just a little bit, they probably would have seen each other before they saw the white guy...unless it was dark, then you could excuse them for the oversight.

Secondly, it does matter. White people need a high profile priest/preacher-turned-politician/activist to drum up a million man march against black racism. Think of the ratings! Of course, one would have to find one million unemployed white people with nothing else to do with their time...but we're working on that.

Don't worry, I work with alternative students. They couldn't care less about politics, much less understand anything about it. If the students I work with can get through the day without a fight, we've done our job. Although I enjoy the challenge of getting them to care about academics, it consists more of behavioral instructions than anything else - basically a constant mind game with them. But hey, these are the guys that are gonna grow up and rob you one day...might as well get on their good side now. :-p
