According to a statement from a spokesman for the 41st president, Bush shaved his head after members of his Secret Service detail shaved theirs, meant to show solidarity with Patrick, the two year-old son of one of the detail who is battling leukemia.

You know I was thinking yesterday that, among Presidents of my lifetime, he is the most admirable man. The only possible contender would be Dwight Eisenhower. But since I was born in 1957 I have no memory of him.

Probably the only possible speck on Bush the Elder's record is that "read my liips, no new taxes" thing and the subsequent reversal. But that was not a lie. It's a lie when you say something you know not to be true. I think he meant that when he said it and later decided, for better or for worse, that he had to do what he had to do.

I mean seriously. A WWII fighter pilot who was shot down near an Island where the Japanese Commander ate the livers of captured enemy. The only other President of my lifetime who had anything like that in his resume was John F. Kennedy and the PT 109 thing. And I don't think Kennedy was as "moral" as Bush the Elder is.
