AZ Pastor in the Brig!

His "offense"? Running an "illegal" home Bible study last year. The City called that a "church," and that is somehow a violation of zoning laws. He was sentenced to 60 days.

First, to call a simple home Bible study a "church" is a HUGE stretch, and one that IMO is completely unjustifiable in court. Second, since when is a violation of zoning laws, legit or not, a jailable offense?!?

You think persecution of the Church isn't happening in the US? Think again....

If a warehouse can be a church, why can't a home? A church isn't an ornate building with a steeple. A church is any building used for religious purposes. Get your head out of your ass.

Anytime you are holding a gathering of people continuously as he does, we have concerns about people being able to exit the facility properly in case there is a fire, and that's really all this comes down to.

Wow, safety? That really does defy logic. Something tells me his neighbors complained about vehicles and that they have been warned.

Hey SH, notice any difference between the Fox News story and this one?
The battle between Salman and his neighbors and the city of Phoenix has been years in the making, but his current jail term stems from how he used a 2,000 square-foot building on his property. According to the city, his church, the Harvest Christian Fellowship Community Church, received a permit to build a "game room" there in 2008. The permit prohibited using the building as a church, business or assembly. Nevertheless, the city cited Salman for holding worship services there in 2009 and 2010.

According to the city, Salman regularly had gatherings of as many as 80 people, and the noise and traffic from the gatherings prompted regular complaints from neighbors.

In 2010, he was found guilty of 67 Class 1 misdemeanors for code violations, such as not having lighted emergency exits, fire doors or sprinklers, in the "game room." He appealed his conviction, but the court upheld them, and he began his jail term on July 9.

The case has garnered national attention, with supporters of Salman arguing that his civil liberties were violated. A commentary on Fox News has nearly 8,000 Facebook "likes" and almost 800 comments.

There's nothing wrong (or illegal) about having a Bible study at your house...10 people, even 20. When 80 show up? Well yeah, it's exactly why most places have zoning laws. Dude deserved it.

I wonder why the Fox News article didn't mention that...

So It's exactly what I said.

Casey, you have GOT to stop reading one news source. Read the same story across multiple sources.

Additionally, the article mentions that the man hasn't paid property taxes for 4 years (also conveniently left out of the Fox News article).

OH! May I answer?

Well, Fox News has a bias in its reporting and needs to report the least amount of facts and keep them vague. They know the average reader will take it as Gospel and therefore, they could say Obama has outlawed Red Ink in banking and the average Fox News subscriber would believe it.

There is a reason the ardent followers of Christ and Fox News are called sheep: Both are easily fooled and led to their own demise.

He's the wrong religion, that's all. If he was Mormon, there'd be no issue.

MSNBC and the other Liberal media outlets are just as guilty as Fox. Huffy and everyone else ignored Obama's crap for 6 years...lying and covering up so that the Dems could get, and maintain, their hands on the White House.

Suddenly, Fox News is the outlet with leanings and misinformation? You guys are too funny...and predictable. :dunce:

No, Fox News and MSNBC are the most vocal. CNN is just clueless.
