Here are your positive numbers:

835,000 discouraged workers.

Labor Force Participation numbers again declined, although at a lower rate than the past several months.

Average hours worked: down .2 hours (equivalent decline of 718,620 jobs)

+278,000 part time -113,000 full time = 165,000 total

Birth/Death model = +193,000 (you'll notice this is more than the 165,000 increase)

Household Employment Overall:
+26k
65+ Employment: +156k
16-64 Employment: -130k

I'm not even going to get into the shitty ISM and Business Activity Index numbers that were published earlier in the week.

Wait until the Obamacare tax is full implemented. You'll see an exponentially greater transition from full-time to part time jobs. That will be especially damaging because most of those moves to part-time positions will happen in the service industries, where almost all of the new jobs are being added.

Thank you, President Obama.

The U-6 rate went up to 13.9%. So, now unemployment didn't improve.

That went up a tenth of a percent from last month. Last month the U-6 was a four + year low.

If you're quoting Obama figures, they're all lies. Unemployment is still at record levels. Out West, anyway....

There's lies, damned lies, and then there's statistics.
I must come to the defense of statistics again. You can attempt to lie with statistics. But it only works if you're trying to lie to someone who doesn't understand how "statistics" works.

You can try to lie with anything. Words. Pictures. So on and so forth.

And when you do you just have to hope that the person you're trying to lie to doesn't know enough about the subject matter.

Of course I guess that's kind of easy. When I was getting ready for work yesterday morning I saw a report on a poll where 40% of respondents couldn't name the Vice President. Then on my way to work I heard a radio report on a poll where 55% of respondents...including 50% of those who called themselves "pro life"... didn't know Planned Parenthood has anything to do with abortion.

Seriously, when you listen to various polls results about the extent to which the US population knows about what's going on around it you have to be concerned. We're having a very substantial proportion of the population that has absolutely no clue going into voting booths when elections come around and participating in picking who runs the country. You can believe that works to the advantage of Democrats or you can believe that works to the advantage of Republicans. But either way there is NO doubt that a very large percentage of those who vote have no idea as to what's going on.

I know it's taboo but I really do think there should be poll tests. I happen to think it would hurt the Democrats a lot more than it would hurt the Republicans. But even if I turn out to be wrong I'd still support it.

Uh, yeah. That's kind of the point, John. :dunce: And the "unemployment" number might be the biggest lie masquarading as a statistic ever perpetrated upon the American people...well, right after the concept of a sequestration "cut" that actually was just a cut to a 7% increase.

I wasn't around during the Carter presidency, but this is typical of internet Carter banter. Small fragments suggesting Carter was like.... the worst ever, you know.

Like I said, I know little about the Carter era outside of gas shortages, Iran and what many have called a non-interventionist approach to the economy. So... why is Carter like the worst ever? Those things I mentioned? Honestly, I don't have much of an opinion on the guy.

Two years of stagflation at the end of his term, mishandling Soviet expansionism, the "malaise" speech, fundamentalist arrogance, expanding the federal bureaucracy, an incompetent cabinet...he was a great President...
