New York City police officials intend to expand the already extensive use of surveillance cameras throughout town. The plan, unveiled Thursday, comes as part of a drive for increased security around the US following the Boston Marathon attack.

New York City Police Department Commissioner Ray Kelly announced the plan during a press conference with Mayor Michael Bloomberg, in which the two announced that the suspected Boston Marathon bombers were planning to attack New York next. The pair said they hope to discourage criminals by using so-called “smart cameras” that will aggregate data from 911 alerts, arrest records, mapped crime patterns, surveillance cameras and radiation detectors, among other tools, according to The Verge.

“You’re never going to know where all of our cameras are,” Bloomberg told reporters gathered outside City Hall. “And that’s one of the ways you deter people; they just don’t know whether the person sitting next to you is somebody sitting there or a detective watching.”

And you'd be hard presses to find one person who works or lives in NYC that objects.

The NYPD Counterterrorism and surveylance departments are shinig examples that should be replicated everywhere, IMO.

Good post DSU- Totally disagree with your assertion Danefan.

The UK is already a totalitarian surveillance state..

Now, the "next generation" of cameras is being rolled out in the US..

"Anti-Terrorism" in the "Homeland"

The NYPD wants to install full body scanners "terahertz imaging detection"

FEDs are using "Mobile X-Ray vans" to randomly scan people - How much radiation these are shooting through you is a valid question, seeing as how you wear a led vest when you get an X-ray at the dentist or doctor.

This is a real poster from England:

"Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither" - Benjamin Franklin

When are people going to realize the idea of "nation states" is actually a JOKE to the elite? They don't go through security checks at airports, they just fly in their private jets wherever they want to go.

"Security" is for the masses- There is a move in every single country to install these types of population watching surveillance systems, their purpose is to make sure the general population is completely enslaved- it is the super-elite vs. the rest of the population, and the elite are working to ensure they can NEVER be deposed.

The "war on terror" and the "fear of terrorism" is their problem-reaction-solution method to get across-the-board draconian surveillance installed, and decrease people's rights all in one fell swoop.

Doesn't matter. That's what we got and it ain't going to change.

Wait until nanotech reaches its full potential and camera carrying drones are the size of a housefly. :coffee:
