POS Alert: Kentucky

A Kentucky mother stepped outside of her home just for a few minutes, but it was long enough for her 5-year-old son to accidentally shoot his 2-year-old sister with the .22-caliber rifle he got for his birthday, state officials said.
Little Caroline Starks died Tuesday in Burkesville, in southern Kentucky, according to Cumberland County Coroner Gary White.
"The little Crickett rifle is a single-shot rifle and it has a child safety," White said of the weapon. "It's just a tragic situation."

Here is where common sense comes into play. You don't give a 5 year old a gun. Period. What does a 5 yr old need with a .22 caliber rifle? And why does a company need to make guns for a child? I'm all for the second amendment but wtf? This is clearly a bad parent. The mother should be charged with criminal negligence. Why does a 5 year old need a gun and why the hell would you leave a child alone with a gun. And apparently, the child proof safety doesn't work as intended. Too bad we can't legislate common sense.

This isn't a gun control issue. This is a stupid fucking parent that should never have given a 5 year old a weapon, load it, leave the room and then let him play with it. I have no sympathy for the parent(s). It's sad about the dead girl but the mom was negligent and it resulted in a death. This should go on her record so that she can't access a weapon again because she CLEARLY isn't responsible to have a weapon.

I've heard of kids back in the day having BB guns or hunting weapons, but NEVER at the age of 4 or 5.

What is this country coming to?

:ohno:

Would you give your 5 year a rifle for his birthday, load it and then walk away?

I once gave my 5 year old a loaded Batman Pez dispenser and walked away for a minute. When I came back, he had one candy in his mouth and the rest on the floor. :ohno:
