WASHINGTON (AP) — Two U.S. officials say the surviving suspect in the Boston bombings was unarmed when police captured him hiding inside a boat in a neighborhood back yard.
Authorities originally said they had exchanged gunfire with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-KHAHR' tsahr-NEYE'-ehv) for more than one hour Friday evening before they were able to subdue him.
The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation, say investigators recovered a 9 mm handgun believed to have been used by Tsarnaev's brother, Tamerlan, from the site of a gun battle Thursday night, which injured a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority officer. Dzhokhar was believed to have been shot before he escaped.
The officials tell The Associated Press that no gun was found in the boat. Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said earlier that shots were fired from inside the boat.
So the "shootout" with police that left the boat riddled with holes was about what again? And the "self inflicted" gunshot to the throat injury?

No doubt. They had no reason to even suspect he was armed.

Nope....he hadn't blown people up and killed a cop and shot others in the last couple days before that...

The shootout seems suspect (now) but the police have to assume he's armed and dangerous.

I know. Why would they think he was a threat?

Yep...for all they knew, given the past couple days, that boat was rigged with so many explosives it would be safe to get within a couple hundred feet of it

Its not a shootout if only one side is firing. Did any authorities claim that there was a shootout with the suspect in the boat? Or was that only the all the idiots in the media reporting that?

from the article above:

A one-sided, one hour shootout. That would explain the heavy police presence on that street.

So the question is, why would high ranking officials lie about a shootout, saying a weapon was recovered when there wasn't one?

Can't be true
CNN told me he had tried to kill himself by putting his gun in his mouth and it went out his neck instead of going into his brain
