The FBI was last night hunting a 12-strong terrorist “sleeper cell” linked to the Boston marathon bomb brothers.

Police believe Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were specially trained to carry out the devastating attack.

More than 1,000 FBI operatives were last night working to track down the cell and arrested a man and two women 60 miles from Boston in the hours before Dzhokhar’s dramatic capture after a bloody shootout on Friday.

A source close to the investigation said: “We have no doubt the brothers were not acting alone. The devices used to detonate the two bombs were highly sophisticated and not the kind of thing people learn from Google.

“They were too advanced. Someone gave the brothers the skills and it is now our job to find out just who they were. Agents think the sleeper cell has up to a dozen members and has been waiting several years for their day to come.”

I'll take the wait and see tack on this one. From what I've seen, the bombs do seem to have a level of sophistication we wouldn't expect to see from just a couple of malcontents, but timed or command detonated (probably by cell phone) black powder bombs certainly are findable on the Internet. Secondly, if the older brother did in fact receive some kind of training, it wasnt in evasion and escape. Everything they did after the bombings was amateurish at best.

Entirely possible that these two could have been inspired and directed by someone else, but if you are controlling a couple flunkies to do your dirty work, you need some kind of plan to have them avoid capture (or make sure theirs is a one-way trip) so that they don't roll over on you when they get caught.

I certainly doubt that these two were acting alone (the sheer number of explosive devices they made suggests this- because of the space, resources, and ability to test), but I am skeptical that their helpers/enablers are much more sophisticated than the two brothers were themselves.

However, for the conspiracy theorists out there- I fail to see the false flag motives that are being suggested. We are currently controlled by a media and a political atmosphere that were literally praying that these two would be somehow connected to domestic right wingers. That these two obviously appear to have been radicalized in Islam and Chechen separatism does not play into that meme at all.

Ummmm...just to let you know, that movie is a rejection of right wing thinking.

I know what it is. I watched it about a week ago on the Scyfy channel. I posted the picture because a central theme was that government had killed a bunch of people with an engineered virus and blamed it on religious extremists.

Believe me I know the movie was a progressive fantasy. One thing I was thinking as I was watching it was how whoever wrote it had it backwards. The "Liberal" or "Progressive" side of our political dichotomy is much more likely to lead us to totalitarianism than the "Conservative" or "Right Wing" side of it is. It's the "Liberal" or "Progressive" side that believes in centralized government control. It's the side that believes government is the force for good that will solve all our problems.

We have one side, the "left", that believes that our loving central government should have more power in order to right all of society's wrongs and make sure everybody gets a "fair shake." And we have another side, the "right," that believes the central government's power should be minimized and that individual choice in the fundamental direction of our lives should rule.

And, yes, I know that there is the abortion debate that we associate the word "choice" with. But I"m talking about the general themes.

The side of big, controlling, central government is definitely the "left" side. Not debatable.

Does the left favor nanny state like pain in the ass laws that can be an impediment to growth or liberty? Yes. Did the DHS come from a Republican President and Congress? Yes!

Where the right falls short is in failing to recognize that "individual choice in the fundamental direction of our lives" erodes with entrenched power and wealth.

The side of big, controlling, centralized plutocracy is definitely on the "right" side.

That's true. But, as I said, the "left" side, in the context of how "right" and "left" are reasonably defined in the context of the politics of the United States or Great Britian (since that's what the movie was about), is the side more likely to lead us to totalitarian government.

No both sides are about equal in that regard. We have yet to see totalitarianism arise from the social democracies in Europe and the regime in the movie was clearly right wing.
