I predict an over-reaction. i was watching Bill O'Reilly interview Peter King a few minutes ago. They were talking about how people had been complaining about Police powers but now this would bring them to their senses so that they'd say "safety first." That's the way it works.

We're going to take something that killed two or three people in the context of a situation in which there is an average of something on the order of 500 deaths from injury per day in the United States and do things like...say...tell people who go to watch marathons that they can't have backpacks to carry their stuff. That's just a guess as to one aspect of the over reaction. But there will be an over reaction.

Safety first. That is the be all and end all. What a sad, sad state of affairs for a country that had its genesis in people whose priority system certainly did NOT reflect that mentality. Though the situation was flawed by the outlook that non-Whites were not fully human, the basic idea was "Liberty first." Not "safety first." And that's what the idea SHOULD be today.

But I agree 100%.

Duh....because he wants people to die.

Kind of goes without saying but bombs are already illegal. I even have a family memory in that regard. My older brother made a pipe bomb with gunpowder just for the fun of it. He went out to some woods and detonated it. I'm talking about lighting a fuse like it was a big firecracker. Later that day the police show up at our house looking for him. Or I guess maybe whoever was driving the car he was driving. And I'm talking about maybe 40 years ago. Turned out OK. They were convinced that to him it was just a big firecracker. But I think them not wanting people to make bombs goes back a long way.

If only those runners had been carrying..

It has next to nothing to do with safety and everything to do with control.

I can see exploiting a safety first mentality to gain control. But I think the problem is that the People do have that "safety first" attitude. Seriously. Like how many times have you seen people respond to what goes on at airports now by saying "as long as they keep us safe?" I really do think there is a a majority of the population who can be convinced to go along with just about anything if they can be convinced that it lowers risk a little.
