Chuck Hagel Punnished For Views on GWB..

If there was ever a clear sign that the diminishing GOP has lost it's mind entirely at the same time nothing has changed..
Republicans angry at Hagel because he called Bush light the worst POTUS since Hoover, and opposed the war in Iraq in general, so what, so does most Americans today.
Who are they out to win over by their antics in the Senate over this nomination, who is going to be lured to their shrinking tent?

Yeah, that's the reason, he called Dubya a bad president.
Hagel is a good Donk. Didn't care when Chairman Obama nominated him, and don't really care now since the SecDef is just going to be a figurehead under this president.
BUT, looking at some of the confirmation hearings and watching the guy repeatedly trip over his dick should make everyone seriously reconsider if they guy has what it takes...even to be a yes man.

Hagel is being blocked for one reason only: Israel.
Don't be fooled by the flashy lights and the idiots at msnbc.
They'd be saying it too if they were smart enough to figure it out, but they aren't.

Chuck Hagel is a joke. The only reason he's been nominated is that he's a RINO with a few medals. Fucker is as dumb as a box of rocks and couldn't find Egypt on a map.

Oh my goodness...the conk hand wringing over this one.
At least he was smart enough to speak out against the Iraq War after it went south.
What an idiot.
Charles Timothy "Chuck" Hagel (born October 4, 1946)[3] is an American politician who was a United States Senator from Nebraska from 1997 to 2009.
A recipient of two Purple Hearts while an infantry squad leader in the Vietnam War, Hagel returned home to start careers in business and politics. He co-founded Vanguard Cellular, the primary source of his personal wealth, and served as president of the McCarthy Group, an investment banking firm, and CEO of American Information Systems Inc., a computerized voting machine manufacturer. A member of the Republican Party, Hagel was first elected to the United States Senate in 1996. He was reelected in 2002, and retired in 2008. Hagel is currently a professor at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, chairman of the Atlantic Council, and co-chairman of the President's Intelligence Advisory Board. He also serves on a number of boards of directors, including that of Chevron Corporation.

Nice resume, kalm. Chevron board member --right up your corporatist alley. Fact is, I was inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt until I actually watched his miserable performance at his hearings. Did you?

They're past winning over anybody. Its about showing enough zeal in defense of their corporate masters fascist agenda to keep the cash flowing in.
And Israel.

In about a week or two, the dem Jews who voted in lockstep for Obama are going to have "their people" whisper a word or two to Obama's people. Then, about a day or two later, things are going to become interesting when Hagel gets to decide whether to blame the Israel lobby again, or just the Republicans.
I don't really have any philosophical or political problems with Hagel myself, but this was an amateur move by the administration to nominate him. Too many potential cans of worms.

Maybe not. McCain looked like a bitter old man on the news shows this morning. The moderator did a very good job of making the conks look like they are holding foreign policy hostage because of a personal grudge, whether they are or not.

These are all intelligent and well reasoned posts here!
Looks to me like Hagel is the perfect choice..

I don't have a problem in the world with the media putting elected officials on the hot seat. It's their duty. I just expect integrity and there is none.

I thought you said it was all about Israel. If that's the case, Houndawg's point seems spot on. Unless it's a 1000% support of Israel, then you suck at foreign policy?
I'll add that if a "journalist" has "integrity" there's a number of things he should be skewering McCain with. It's not a reporter's job to play footsies with a Senator...especially one so vocal on foreign policy. Their fealty should be to the news and the public.
At least Hagel's no John Bolton.

Well, anybody with a lick of sense knows that the worst President since Hoover was FDR; at least in terms of damage done to the long term interest of the nation. In fact FDR may have been the worst President ever in those terms.

I love how emphatically you phrase this! FDR's policies, while still solvent, have finally caught up to us 80 years later! (While I'm typing this using energy from the CCC Grand Coulie Dam project).
I had a similar and great conversation the other day with an 87 years young dear friend/customer who received a million dollar wound in the Battle of the Bulge, was high up in management of a regional bank, ran for state legislature twice (1960's E. WA conks were as stupid as todays), is as staunch a catholic as you can fathom, and perhaps the most well read person I know (and I know some amazingly well read people).
To him, FDR was hands down the greatest american president. And he has children and a gazillion grand and great grandchildren who's future's are affected by this stuff.
FDR's legacy is complex. But my friend Bill poops out more sense on a daily basis than will cross yours and my craniums in a year.

Both my parents were Republicans who lived through the Great Depression and thought FDR was a great President. My Dad said that the CCC alone saved an enormous number of citizens his age from destitution.

I did say it was all about Israel, because it definitely is. Do you think anyone is going to come out and say it? Especially when the deal breaker is going to come not from the right, but the Obama supporters of the Jewish variety who don't like Hagel at all, and with good reason.
McCain might be petulant and he might be mad, but just him and his buddies would not be enough to carry this through based on their beef with Hagel over Iraq and Bush. That's nit picky even for McCain.
The media isn't going to touch the real reason Hagel won't be confirmed and the nomination pulled, because 1) they arent that bright, and 2) it will make the decision to put him up in the first place look all the more silly.
I think you misinterpreted my post. The media strokes the people they like. There are pockets of evenhandedness at CBS and CNN, but by and large the media at large has abrogated its responsibility to hold politician's feet to the fire. Feel free to write CNN with all of your creative ideas with which they can skewer John McCain, I'm sure they will get around to it when the topic is right.

CID1990: Educated. Smart. Well read. Wrong again.
Even McCain thinks he'll get the gig. About half of Republican Senators will vote against against him for not being enough of a saber-rattling jingoist.

I COULD be wrong, but right now Hagel is in a very precarious position because every minute that goes by gives more space to the folks who actually do not want him confirmed. McCain is a sideshow, as usual. Right now I'm keeping my money on the nomination being pulled.

It was well played by Obama. He put up a "Republican", and much to Obama's pleasure the guy looked like a complete imbecile in the confirmation hearings. Once the nomination goes down the shitter, the focus won't be that Obama put up an idiot, the media will play it out that the idiot was a "Republican".
