Perhaps some of the strictest gun control is in Chicago and that has worked so well.

If there would have been more gun control and I mean a lot more......this kid would be alive to get shot by somebody else.

Rahmbo needs to get busy and clean that place up.
At a Tuesday press conference, he noted his officers took more illegal guns off the streets than anywhere else in the country. According to the Tribune, McCarthy said within the first three weeks of the month, "two of Chicago's 22 police districts seized more illegal guns than were collected in all of New York City."

McCarthy also pointed out New York also has harsher penalties for gun violations.

"... When people get caught with (illegal) guns in New York, they go to jail," McCarthy said, according to the Tribune. "… As a result they're not carrying guns with impunity."

Chicago is a great city but I feel sorry for the hostages held by the corrupt, thuggish liberal government that gets its citizens/hostages murdered every week.

It worked great in Australia: After Gun ban:

Armed Robberies up 69%
Assault with Guns up 28%
Gun murders up 19%
Home invasions up 21%

Excellent results...

"but if we can save even one child's life,
I really, really hate seeing that mentality. That "if even ONE life can be saved" thing. The reason is that there's an awful lot of stuff we could do that would "save" lives...in other words reduce mortality from some particular cause. Like for instance we could say we're going to put a $10 per gallon tax on gasoline. That would reduce mortality from traffic accidents. Absolutely no doubt about it because it would dramatically reduce the number of miles driven. I'd say the number of lives "saved" in terms of motor vehicle accident mortality would be in the 4 or 5 digits annually. But the fact that it would "save lives" doesn't mean we should do it.

Somehow, some way, we need to put and end to this "IF IT WILL EVEN SAVE ONE LIFE" stuff once and for all.

No. The fact that "IT WILL SAVE LIVES" does not automatically justify something.

New York and Chicago have similar gun restrictions, yet per capita gun violence and crime in general is far less in NYC. The difference is that NYC actually goes after criminals.
The police measure that most consistently reduces crime is the arrest rate of those involved in crime, the study finds. Felony arrest rates (except for motor vehicle thefts) rose 50 to 70 percent in the 1990s. When arrests of burglars increased 10 percent, the number of burglaries fell 2.7 to 3.2 percent. When the arrest rate of robbers rose 10 percent, the number of robberies fell 5.7 to 5.9 percent. In the case of murder, the decline was 3.9 to 4 percent; in the case of assault, 2 to 2.4 percent; and for motor vehicle theft, 5 to 5.1 percent.

The contribution of such deterrence measures (the "stick") offers more explanation for the decline in New York City crime than the improvement in the economy, the authors conclude. Between 1990 and 1999, homicide dropped 73 percent, burglary 66 percent, assault 40 percent, robbery 67 percent, and vehicle hoists 73 percent.
